It’s been a crazy year for Trevor Bayne. After shocking the racing world with his record-setting victory at the Daytona 500 back in February, an illness off the track and inconsistency on the track made for a frustrating Nationwide Series season.<\/p>\n

That all changed at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge in Texas today where Bayne held off a slew of Sprint Cup regulars (Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and Clint Bowyer) and series championship hopefuls (Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Elliott Sadler) to win his first ever Nationwide race. Inspiring Athletes has posted a pair of interviews with Bayne this year and both times he was quick to share the purpose behind his stock car racing efforts.<\/p>\n

“If I was doing this not for a purpose but just to race, then this year I would\u2019ve been a disaster,” Bayne told me in Kansas back in October. “I would\u2019ve been going to the top and getting a big head and then getting completely deflated and being down. But when you have a purpose to work for something\u2014it\u2019s not just for me, it\u2019s for the platform and I know God\u2019s going to do something with it\u2014it changes your whole perspective.”<\/p>\n
