Joe Rogan Thinks So"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_9015\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9015\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/89\/2023\/01\/Joe-Rogan-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9015\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/89\/2023\/01\/Joe-Rogan-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9015\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Joe Rogan Experience<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Joe Rogan recently sat down with actor Jon Bernthal on his podcast, and the two briefly discussed \u201cthe slap heard round the world\u201d when Will Smith infamously\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Will_Smith%E2%80%93Chris_Rock_slapping_incident\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">slapped<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0comedian and Oscars host Chris Rock live during last year\u2019s 94th awards ceremony. Rock had made a joke about Smith\u2019s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, referring to her short haircut, which Jada has stated to be a side effect of her alopecia. \u201cJada, I love you. \u2018G.I. Jane 2,\u2019 can\u2019t wait to see you,\u201d Rock had said on stage just before Smith marched up to him and slapped him across the face. He then cursed out the comedian as he returned to his seat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In speaking about the incident, Joe Rogan stated he had changed his stance from never forgiving Smith for his actions and said, \u201cNow thinking about [it], I\u2019m like, that guy has to be forgiven. Like, he clearly has deep remorse for what he\u2019s done.\u201d He went on to say that Smith is \u201ca human being\u201d and that, ultimately, it\u2019s up to Chris Rock to forgive Smith\u2019s actions. Rogan, who has also done stand-up, was only one of a large group of comedians who were critical of the slap when it occurred and the fact that the Oscars allowed Smith to remain the rest of the show to accept his Best Actor reward for <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">King Richard<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. \u201cLet me tell you something, it\u2019s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a comedian. Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters,\u201d comedian Kathy Griffin\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-oscars-chris-rock-will-smith-comedians-reaction-c4ae7e9429cd4ee79e6e7285607a8567\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0on her Twitter after the incident. Comedian Wanda Sykes, who has hosted the Oscars in the past, criticized the way the situation was handled by the Academy and has stated she will not return to host the show. \u201cIt was sickening,\u201d she\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2022\/03\/wanda-sykes-calls-out-oscars-will-smith-chris-rock-slap-1234712836\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0of seeing the incident. \u201cI physically felt ill. I\u2019m still a little traumatized by it. And for them to let him stay in that room and enjoy the rest of the show and accept his award, I was like, \u2018How gross is this? This is just the wrong message.\u2019 You assault somebody, you get escorted out of the building, and that\u2019s it. For them to let him continue, I thought it was gross.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Smith has publicly apologized for the incident multiple times, with the actor\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2022\/nov\/29\/will-smith-speaks-about-oscars-slap-to-trevor-noah-i-just-lost-it#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThere%27s%20many%20nuances%20and%20complexities,know%20what%20somebody%27s%20going%20through.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">telling<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0late-night host Trevor Noah, \u201cI just lost it.\u201d In a letter to the Academy, Smith wrote, \u201cJokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada\u2019s medical condition was too much for me to bear emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line, and I was wrong. I am embarrassed, and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.\u201d For his part, Rock has\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/where-chris-rock-reportedly-stands-with-will-smith-following-the-actors-apology-for-the-oscars-slap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">remained mostly silent<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0on the incident, referencing the incident occasionally during his stand-up. He has not yet publicly accepted the apology, nor has there been any indication that the two celebrities have spoken since.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Smith also continues to experience backlash from the event, having been\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-61018821\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">banned<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0from the Oscars for 10 years. His film,\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Emancipation<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which came out months after the slap, bombed at the box office, and he was snubbed from a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of a slave seeking freedom.
