\"\"<\/a>How many neighbors do you know by name? When was the last time you had a conversation with the person next door, even if it was just for five minutes, or simply waved when you were passing by? If you can\u2019t answer these questions, you\u2019ve probably lost touch with the people around you. While nobody says you have to interact with your neighbors every day, it is nice to check on them, especially those who are in need.<\/p>\n

On day 10 of the 12 days of service challenge, help a neighbor with a task. See what their specific needs are. The Bible tells us, \u201cIn all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, \u2018It is more blessed to give than to receive\u2019\u201d (Acts 20:35). Proverbs 19:17 reminds us, \u201cWhoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.\u201d The poor doesn\u2019t necessarily mean those without money. It can also mean those who are fragile or poor in spirit.<\/p>\n

When we think of helping a neighbor with a task, we typically think of helping with yard work, but there may be another area of need. Ask them directly what they would like you to do. You inquiring about what they need assistance with could be just the help they needed to get their goal accomplished. It may be changing the light bulb they haven\u2019t been able to reach or grabbing something from the store because they haven\u2019t been able to get out. Pay attention to what their specific needs are.<\/p>\n

If you want to take the challenge a step further, don\u2019t just make this a one-time act. Check on this neighbor periodically. They may need help, but they also may be looking for someone they can talk to, and connect with, especially if their family is far away. What may have started as a small gesture can turn into an ongoing friendship. Are you up for the challenge?<\/p>\n
