The Bible calls us to love our neighbor and be there for one another. Philippians 2:1-7 says, \u201cSo if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by agreeing, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

On day 9 of the days of service challenge, consider checking up on a friend or a family member. You may be wondering what checking in looks like. It can look different depending on the person. For some people, a quick text message is a great way to check-in. This can be done by phone, Facebook messenger, Twitter DM, among other ways. This can be a message that says something as simple as \u201cI thought of you and simply wanted to say hi.\u201d They may respond with a simple \u201cthank you,\u201d or it may open the door to more conversation if you haven\u2019t connected in some time.<\/p>\n

The person you reach out to may just need a listening ear. There are times when we simply need to vent or talk through things we are going through in life. There are times when we just need to verbalize what we\u2019re experiencing or how we\u2019re feeling. Your friend or family member may need someone to be a listening ear.<\/p>\n

It may be helpful to ask your friend or family member if you could help them in any way. They may want to turn to you for advice, but they also may not be looking for it. Offer them advice if they are looking for it, but if they just want a listening ear, also be that person for them. It will mean the world to them to know you simply care.
