Now we all know that waiting in line can be a slow and exasperating experience. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid standing in line, even if you’re in the self-checkout lane, bank, gas station, subway platform, or toll booth. Challenge yourself to make someone’s wait a little more tolerable simply by letting them go in front of you. Think about it. There is always a person who has just a few extra items in every express checkout line, who goes over the limit. Then, there is someone who has only an item or two who is stuck standing behind that person with a super full cart. Consider letting that person go ahead of you. It’s a small gesture that will go a long way. It will make their day, and it won’t even cost you any extra time.

Those who may be standing in line who have special needs prevent them from waiting in line comfortably for prolonged periods. This list includes seniors and pregnant women. If you happen to see someone with a medical need, do the right thing and let them go ahead of you. If this is someone you wouldn’t have a problem giving up your seat to, you should be comfortable letting them cut you in line.

If you really want to take the challenge to the next level, consider letting someone cut you in the line once a week or once a month, depending on how often you’re in the store. This can also go for the person who looks like they are in a rush in the gas station or having a really bad day. It will make you feel really good knowing you are brightening that person’s day, and it will make that person feel good to know that there are still good people in this world.

Every day is a new opportunity to #LightTheWorld.
