For day two of the days of service challenge, write a loving note to a family member, a neighbor, a co-work, or a friend. This will be a letter of gratitude and thanks. You can leave this note in a place that they will easily be able to access it. If you’re someone who spends a lot of time on the phone, you can consider sending them a note through text or through social media. You can make the note long and detailed, but you can also keep the words simple. This is a quick and easy way to access someone while also letting them know how much you care.

In a day where people are constantly barraged with digital communications, you can stand out by writing a handwritten thank you card. Write a note that is personalized, a true expression that the message is from the heart. The note itself doesn’t have to be on fancy stationery or even be included in an expensive card. What’s important is that you highlight what you are specifically grateful for. This message of gratitude will not be forgotten.

Notes to loved ones are very special, but it doesn’t have to stop there. You can also consider writing a loving note to someone you don’t know but appreciate. There are organizations like Operation Gratitude that allow you to send letters of gratitude thanking members of our troops, first responders, veterans, new recruits, wounded heroes, and their caregivers. Operation Gratitude sends over 250,000 packages each year. Their goal is to include several letters and colorful drawings in every care package to tell our heroes how much we care. This is a great way to show how much you love and support those who serve. The holidays are an especially good time for this because they can be lonely times, especially if someone doesn’t have a lot of family or friends reaching out. Being a part of initiatives like this can take less than 5 minutes of your day but bring great joy to the recipients.

Every day is a new opportunity to #LightTheWorld.
