Carli Lloyd’s viral 55-yard field goal was so impressive that NFL teams are taking notice.<\/p>\n
Her trainer James Galanis said Lloyd was approahced by several teams after her kick at the Philadelphia Eagles-Baltimore Ravens practice last week, with one even giving her an offer that would allowe her real game time. Lloyd would be making history, becoming the first woman to play in an NFL preseason game.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, she got another call from another NFL team,\u201d Galanis Fox Sports. \u201cThe one that called today, I don\u2019t want to say who it is, was willing to put her on the roster for their next (game). They were willing to put her on the roster.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Lloyd was genuinly interested in the offer, it conflicted with a United States women\u2019s national team game against Portugal. In additon, she would only have had a few days to prepare for the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cKnowing Carli, I don\u2019t think she would just hop on and do it,\u201d Galanis added. \u201cShe would need a couple of weeks training just to get comfortable and acclimatized. But things have escalated and it is real.”<\/p>\n
James Galanis said that if Lloyd pursues football, it will be with an eye toward training for the 2020 season.<\/p>\n
Many have observed that Llyod took five steps before connecting with the ball, while the standard is only 2 for an NFL kicker. Tweaking this and other things will be the main point of training for Lloyd.<\/p>\n
“If she’s going to do this, she’ll do it — she’ll train in the offseason, she’ll get herself ready so that she just doesn’t do it for the sake of doing it,” Galanis told ESPN. “If she’s going to do it, she’s going to do it so that she can be a success.”<\/p>\n
Lloyd had been invited to observe the Eagles practice with her husband, Brian Hollins, but due to her field goal the seemingly average visits began to take on a life of it’s own.<\/p>\n
“I am having discussions with my husband and James about the reality of playing in the NFL,” Lloyd told Fox Sports. “They both feel that I could do it and should consider it. So I’m seriously considering it, as it’s a challenge.”<\/p>\n
