Take for example right now. I’m thinking about a thousand things at once. My old friends, my new friends, my last meal and what I’ll eat again tonight, the next good day to go running and whether I have cilantro stuck in my teeth from lunch. And add to that being a natural multi-tasker. I have at least ten tabs open on my Internet browser, a text message conversation going on with an old roommate and I have two Twitter feeds for Beliefnet scrolling up-to-the-minute news all at once. Yes, I am physically in one space, but mentally I’m all over the map.

Lately, I’ve had to stop and tell myself to be in the moment. It’s something we all need to be reminded of. We’re with one friend, but thinking about other friends. We’re out to eat at a nice restaurant, but preoccupied with how much it will all cost. No one is really present.

Why do we do this? I think we’re afraid we’ll miss something, which is ironic, because being so distracted makes us miss even more. So many trivial matters divide our attention that we can’t see the simple joys right in front of us.

Where are you right now? Honestly, as you’re reading this blog, describe to me the moment you’re in. What’s good about it? What needs to be fixed? Are you living this moment to its absolute fullest potential? If not, then why not start now.

What’s that they say? “Life is what happens to you while you’re making other plans.” Let’s all practice being here now in the present. There is so much in this moment that has yet to be discovered.

Read More:
Present Moment Quotes
21 Simple Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy Life
How to Pay Attention for a Better Life

“Wherever you are, be all there.” – Jim Rohn It’s one of my favorite quotes and one of the hardest things to do.
