The blogs are buzzing this week about the discovery of Oprah’s half sister<\/a> (my favorite tweet thus far being from TV host and comedian Stephen Colbert: “Oprah revealed she has a secret half-sister. Great, now everybody is going to want one”).<\/p>\n

As interesting as it is, I was touched more so by an interview she did with CNN’s Piers Morgan last week. In it, she discussed several hot topics including her friendship with Gayle King.<\/em><\/p>\n

“It’s pretty special. I wish every person on earth to experience somebody to care for them and to know them in such a way that they only want the best for you… When you become famous and you have access to lots of different things, a lot of people lose oxygen and they can’t make the summit with you. [It’s good] to be able to have somebody who not only can make the summit, but stand at the summit with you and rejoices in your being able to make it.”<\/em><\/p>\n

That is quite possibly the best description of friendship I’ve ever heard, and it reminded me of my friends. When I think of them, I can’t tell you how many times I ask myself, “What did I do to get such wonderful people in my corner?”<\/p>\n

Like Oprah mentions earlier in the interview, I too have a core group of maybe four or five people who reside in my inner circle. They are encouraging, smart and loyal. I learn from them; they inspire me. They push me to be the best version of myself, yet at the same time, love me just as I am. They are my cheerleaders and I hope I do the same for them.<\/p>\n

Who are your dearest friends? Who will be by your side whether you’re deep in the valley or high on the mountaintop? Do they know how much you appreciate them? Be sure to tell them today.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n
