A couple headed to Las Vegas for a private elopement received a wedding experience they never could have planned \u2014 complete with a toilet-paper dress, a coffee-stirrer bouquet and 178 unexpected guests.<\/p>\n

Sara Arroyo Montalvo and her partner were flying to Las Vegas on Aug. 13 when Southwest Airlines flight attendants learned why they were traveling. Instead of simply wishing the couple well, the crew decided to help them exchange vows before the plane landed.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the flight\u2019s captain was also an ordained minister and agreed to officiate the ceremony at 35,000 feet.<\/p>\n

The couple walked down the airplane aisle as their fellow passengers watched, cheered and became honorary wedding guests. Because the bride did not have traditional wedding attire with her, flight attendants used what they could find onboard to make the moment feel special.<\/p>\n

They created a veil and a one-ply wedding dress out of toilet paper. The crew also fashioned a bouquet using Southwest coffee stirrers.<\/p>\n

\u201cFate couldn\u2019t have been more aligned,\u201d Montalvo wrote on Facebook, noting that it was the couple\u2019s first time flying with Southwest Airlines.<\/p>\n

She thanked the employees for transforming what had been planned as a quiet elopement into a celebration the couple will never forget.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you from the bottom of our hearts for an unforgettable flight!\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Southwest Airlines praised its employees for going beyond their usual duties to create a memorable experience for the newlyweds.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur employees are known for creating memorable moments, and we love seeing them take our legendary hospitality to new heights,\u201d the airline said in a statement to Fox News Digital. \u201cWe wish the newlyweds a lifetime of love, laughter and blue skies ahead!\u201d<\/p>\n

Video of the unusual wedding quickly attracted attention online, with viewers celebrating the crew\u2019s creativity and generosity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the best thing ever!!! Would\u2019ve [loved] to have been on that flight!\u201d one Facebook user commented.<\/p>\n

Another described it as \u201cabout the coolest wedding story I have ever heard of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some viewers questioned the legal details of a wedding conducted in the air, including which state would recognize the marriage license and where the officiant would sign the paperwork. Montalvo\u2019s post focused instead on the joy of the unexpected ceremony and the kindness shown by the flight crew.<\/p>\n

What began as a routine trip to Las Vegas became a wedding story the couple \u2014 and nearly 180 strangers \u2014 will likely tell for years.
