When Brittany Smith of Manchester, Tennessee requested Starbucks through DoorDash, she wasn\u2019t prepared for what she saw. Her video doorbell caught the Dasher who arrived with her order, an elderly man gingerly walking up her porch stairs to slowly leave her order at her door. Smith was deeply affected by watching an elderly man delivering food for her, so she posted the video of him across her social media. \u201cHelp me find this precious man!\u201d she wrote on\u00a0Facebook<\/a>. \u201cWhy is he having to DoorDash\u2026his name is Richard! Help me find him.\u201d With the help of other users, Smith was able to locate the man, a 78-year-old man by the name of Richard Pulley. \u201cHe is precious and he is not working because he wants to. He\u2019s working [because] he has to,\u201d she said in an update.<\/p>\n

Pulley and his wife Brenda have been married for 56 years. Richard revealed that his wife had been fired from her job \u201cat no fault of her own\u201d over a year ago, leaving the couple to struggle to pay for basic living expenses. During that time, the couple had been doing DoorDash together, with Brenda driving while Richard took the deliveries to the door. \u201cWhen you\u2019re past your mid-70s, there\u2019s not exactly a line of people waiting to hire you,\u201d Brenda told a local news station.<\/a> \u201cWith just one income in the family, you have to push\u2026 Just losing that, we had to supplement it,\u201d added Richard.<\/p>\n

Moved by the couple\u2019s story, Smith started a GoFundMe<\/a> to help the couple retire. \u201cRichard delivered Starbucks to my home via door dash and it was evident from the video this was a task for him. With the help of social media I was able to track down Richard and learned he does DoorDash due to his wife being fired from her job\u2026 Let\u2019s help Richard go back into retirement!!\u201d Smith wrote. The campaign, along with the video of the struggling Richard, took off, with over $300,000 being raised within 24 hours. Smith and her daughter arranged a meeting with Brenda and Richard at a local Manchester restaurant to share the stunning total that had been donated to them.<\/p>\n

The couple was floored. \u201cIt\u2019s just really difficult to believe that there\u2019s that many people that are that generous to try to help us\u2026 People that don\u2019t even know us,\u201d said Brenda. She added praise for Smith. \u201cShe\u2019s remarkable. I just can\u2019t believe that someone would be that caring to set this up for us.\u201d \u201cWe appreciate every one of them\u2026 it\u2019s taking a lot of pressure off of us\u2026 and making life livable once again,\u201d said Richard. As for herself, Smith characterized it as an act of love. \u201cI don\u2019t know. It\u2019s just I love this man,\u201d she said, with her daughter adding she\u2019d like Richard to be her grandpa.
