A birth more than a century in the making is bringing joy, tears, and plenty of pink to one Texas family. After 108 years of only boys being born into their family line, Michael Sherman Jr. and his wife, Joacquia, learned they\u2019re expecting a baby girl next spring.<\/p>\n

The Shermans shared the exciting news during a surprise gender reveal party that gathered relatives from across the country. For generations, the family believed daughters were simply not in the cards\u2014but God had a different plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t think it was quite possible for us to even have a girl, so, I just knew if we had another child, it was going to be a boy, so I was very surprised,\u201d Joacquia told Good Morning America<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Michael Jr., a lieutenant in the Montgomery County Fire Department, came home from his shift expecting a small family gathering. Instead, he was met with relatives, a camera crew, and the kind of news that would change family history.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just getting off shift that morning and we had a, [what] was supposed to be a small gender reveal, [with] very close family members, and \u2026 going into it, I took the blindfold off and there\u2019s a camera crew, and there\u2019s family from all over the United States,\u201d Sherman Jr. said. \u201cIt was a huge surprise on top of me finding out that it\u2019s a girl. So it was pretty amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The moment was made even sweeter when their young son, Mekai, held up a cup of cake with a pink ribbon, while Joacquia lifted a pink napkin to reveal the family\u2019s future had officially changed.<\/p>\n

The last time the Sherman family welcomed a daughter through birth was in 1917, when Michael Jr.\u2019s great-great aunt, Orah Belle Sherman, was born. Orah Belle went on to be described as a \u201ctrailblazer in Atlanta,\u201d deeply involved in the civil rights movement. Now, relatives hope the newest little Sherman will follow in those inspiring footsteps.<\/p>\n

Michael Sr., the soon-to-be grandfather, reflected on the incredible milestone. \u201cIt\u2019s like a monumental thing. I have three boys. My dad had two boys. His brother had two boys. So, it\u2019s never been nothing but boys, boys, boys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Though the baby girl isn\u2019t due until March, her family has already embraced her with open hearts. Great-grandmother Lydia Robertson shared her joy and prayers: \u201cI love her. No matter what path she chooses, we will be with her\u2026 She\u2019s going to always have support here for us, and I pray she makes the right decisions in life and takes the right path.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even five-year-old Mekai is excited to step into his new role. \u201cI think he\u2019ll be a great big brother and a great leader. He\u2019s definitely looking forward to meeting his new sister,\u201d Michael Jr. added.<\/p>\n

For the Sherman family, this baby is more than a surprise\u2014she\u2019s a reminder of God\u2019s ability to do the unexpected. In a lineage that saw only boys for more than a century, a little girl is on her way, carrying with her hope, joy, and a new legacy.<\/p>\n
