For one Michigan family, their daughter’s arrival was just that — an early delivery in the parking lot of a McDonald’s that ended with a healthy baby, a grateful mom, and a nickname that has people “lovin’ it.”

Alyce Rotunda, 32, was expecting her fourth child toward the end of August. But her baby girl decided to come a little early — and in a very unexpected place. Alyce had already been sent home from the hospital on Aug. 8 with what doctors said was a “false alarm.” Just three days later, on her own birthday, the contractions came back, and this time they weren’t letting up.

Late that night, Alyce called her mother to come watch her three kids — Genesis, 7, Kevin III, 4, and Boone, 2. She and her husband, Kevin, set out on the 45-minute drive to a hospital in Kalamazoo.

“If I had to have the baby in the car, then that’s what I was going to do,” Rotunda told Fox News Digital.

It didn’t take long for the couple to realize they weren’t going to make it to the hospital. They called 911 and planned to stop at a gas station, but when they arrived, it was nearly 3 a.m. and the station was crowded and bright. Kevin decided to keep driving until they found a quieter spot — a closed McDonald’s in Schoolcraft.

“The pain makes you focused on what’s happening and I only had a slight moment of thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, can I do this?’ as we were pulling into McDonald’s,” Rotunda recalled. “You just do what you have to do. There’s no sense in fighting anything.”

And that’s exactly what happened.

Even Kevin, who usually gets queasy at the sight of blood, rose to the moment.

“Anyone who knows my husband knows that, if you talk about a nosebleed for too long, he gets nauseous. Any blood, anything like that, you see him go white,” Alyce said. “So for him to go from that, to catching his own child — I am so thankful.”

Alyce breathed a sigh of relief when she heard her daughter’s cry and saw that she was alert and breathing. It was especially emotional since Alyce’s pregnancies are considered high-risk due to her Type 1 diabetes and history of complications.

Within ten minutes, paramedics arrived and took the family to the hospital to be checked out.

“I am just so incredibly thankful and blessed that there were no complications for the baby or for me, and the whole experience is wild, but I’m just very thankful,” Alyce said. “I wanted her on my birthday, but she decided to wait three hours, and she gave me a story regardless.”

The little girl was named Matilda, but her entrance quickly earned her a nickname.

“He was talking to my husband, and they were talking about nicknames, and he came up with McTilly, and he just thought it was the best thing ever,” Alyce said of her brother-in-law’s idea. “Everyone gets a kick out of it.”

Even the local McDonald’s got in on the fun, sharing on Facebook: “Alyce and Kevin Rotunda got more than they ordered in the parking lot at the Schoolcraft McDonald’s. During the early morning hours of Aug. 11, they welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Matilda, under the Golden Arches!”

The post continued, “Alyce and Kevin, we’re glad to know you’ll have a story to tell for years to come. And as for baby Matilda? She’s already part of the McFamily!”

From a stressful night to a story that will be retold for generations, little “McTilly” has already made quite an entrance — and left her family with memories (and laughs) they’ll cherish forever.

Sometimes life throws surprises that are both nerve-wracking and unforgettable.
