It was just a purpose to honor them, and just to sing and remind people what has happened.”

As Skyler stood in front of an image of her now-destroyed cabin and sang her emotional lyrics, no one expected what would happen next. From behind the set emerged her musical hero, Lauren Daigle, who walked out and embraced the stunned young girl.

“I literally was standing in the corner with tears,” Daigle told Skyler. “You took the tragedy and turned it into something beautiful. That’s so telling of your faith, and the hope you have in Jesus.”

The surprise capped off an emotional segment as Skyler’s family recounted the terrifying night the river rose rapidly and communication was cut off. Her cabin, closest to the river, was one of the first to be affected. She and others were rescued by camp staff in pickup trucks who rushed to get the girls to safety. Meanwhile, her parents raced four hours through the night, fearing the worst.

“There was no communication,” said Skyler’s father. “It was the fastest I’ve ever driven in my life.”

In the days that followed, Skyler turned to music and faith to process her grief. With the help of her mother, Lacey rewrote the lyrics to “Hallelujah” as a tribute.

“It was very emotional and healing,” Lacey said. “It was like song therapy. A beautiful tribute.”

Skyler’s revised lyrics include the powerful lines:

“They say the water overcame / But I will never forget their names / No blame, no fault, so really, what’s it to ya / We are a part of Mystic heart / We spread His light, His love, His Word / The holy and the broken hallelujah.”

Skyler told the hosts she dreams of becoming a Christian singer and counts Daigle as her biggest inspiration. Daigle, who flew to New York just for the surprise, was deeply moved. “She’s got it,” Daigle said. “The way you wrote those lyrics — wow. And singing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah,’ that’s not easy. But you nailed it.”

Daigle also shared that her new single, “Let It Be a Hallelujah”, releases August 1 — a song she wrote nearly a decade ago that now feels perfectly timed.

“Sometimes He puts things in holding and asks you to wait,” she said. “I had no idea back then that it would come now, but I understand it to a deeper level today.”

In the wake of the disaster, Christian artists including Cory Asbury, Chris Stapleton, and George Strait have rallied to raise funds for flood victims. Asbury’s recent benefit concert in Nashville raised over $25,000 in ticket sales alone.

Tears flowed, and hearts were moved on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning as Grammy Award-winning Christian artist Lauren Daigle surprised a young fan whose tribute song touched the nation.
