Lisa Brown Langley, a photographer now known as L.A. Brown, will never forget the day she hurt her dad\u2019s feelings over a simple gift.<\/p>\n

It was 1992, and she was in London with her father, Phil Brown, as her 30th birthday approached. He turned to her with a smile and said, \u201cIt\u2019s time I bought you something I\u2019ve given every woman in our family.\u201d He wanted to buy her a Herm\u00e8s scarf<\/span><\/strong>, a family tradition and a symbol of love.<\/p>\n

But Lisa didn\u2019t see it that way at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cDad, I\u2019m so appreciative. But, you know me \u2014 I\u2019m an artist. I just wouldn\u2019t wear a costly Herm\u00e8s scarf,\u201d she told him.<\/p>\n

The moment the words left her mouth, she wished she could take them back. She worried she had hurt her father, and the guilt quietly stayed with her for years.<\/p>\n

Four years later, her father passed away from leukemia. As she grieved, the memory of rejecting his kind offer returned. The gift had been his way of saying, \u201cYou are cherished,\u201d and she had pushed it away.<\/p>\n

After weeks of sorrow, Lisa made a choice: instead of drowning in regret, she would honor her father\u2019s belief in her by becoming the talented photographer he always believed she could be.<\/p>\n

And she did.<\/p>\n

Years passed. When Lisa was nearly 50, she and her husband, Brendan, were walking in London when they passed a Herm\u00e8s store. It reminded her of that day with her dad, but she had never shared the story with her husband.<\/p>\n

Two days later, they returned home to Martha\u2019s Vineyard to find a package waiting for Lisa from her Aunt Nan. It came with a note: \u201cDo not open until your birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lisa couldn\u2019t wait. She opened the box, slipped her hand inside, and felt something silky.<\/p>\n

It was a <\/b>Herm\u00e8s scarf<\/span><\/strong>.<\/b><\/p>\n

The note read, \u201cDear Lisa, this scarf was given to your grandmother by your father. Now that she\u2019s gone \u2026 I thought you\u2019d like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tears filled Lisa\u2019s eyes. It felt like a message from heaven \u2014 a Godwink<\/span><\/strong> reminding her that her father\u2019s love was still with her.<\/p>\n
