Vice President JD Vance marked a deeply personal and faith-filled moment, celebrating his mother’s 10 years of sobriety with a special ceremony at the White House.<\/p>\n

Beverly Aikins, Vance’s mother, was honored in the Roosevelt Room, where family and close friends gathered to witness her receive a 10-year sobriety medallion. The emotional event underscored not just a personal victory but a story of redemption and the power of second chances \u2014 themes Vance has long credited to his Christian faith.<\/p>\n

“This year marks my mom’s 10th year of sobriety, and I’m grateful that we were able to celebrate in the White House with our family,” Vance shared on social media alongside photos of the ceremony. “Mom, I am so proud of you.”<\/p>\n

For Vance, the moment was especially poignant. In his bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy<\/em>, he chronicled the heartbreak of growing up in Appalachia with a mother trapped in addiction. On Friday, emotion filled his voice as he reflected on the journey both he and his mother had traveled.<\/p>\n

“Well, here we are. And you made it, and we made it. And most importantly, you’re celebrating a very, very big milestone. And I’m just very proud of you,” Vance said, fighting back tears. “When I think about everything you’ve accomplished over the last 10 years and the fact that when I was thinking about becoming a father, I didn’t know whether you would live long enough to have a relationship with my kids \u2014 and now here they are, almost 8, 5, and 3 \u2014 and you’re the best grandmother that these kids could ever ask for.”<\/p>\n

Aikins, once caught in the throes of alcohol and heroin addiction, now works as a nurse at a recovery center in Cincinnati. She dedicates her life to helping others find hope, encouraging those still battling addiction to seek help and never give up.<\/p>\n

“Recovery is hard, but it’s so worth it,” she says, echoing the perseverance that helped her reclaim her life.<\/p>\n

The seeds for the celebration were planted last summer when Vance introduced his mother during his speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Proudly telling the nation that his mom was 10 years clean and sober, he floated the idea of holding her 10-year celebration at the White House \u2014 a promise he made good on last week.<\/p>\n

“Promises made, promises kept… by both mother and son,” conservative commentator Charlie Kirk posted in response to the touching event.<\/p>\n

The family’s story is a testament to the Christian values of forgiveness, grace, and restoration. Aikins once admitted in an interview that reading her son’s memoir was heartbreaking, revealing the pain she had unintentionally caused. But through healing and faith, their relationship was rebuilt, stronger than ever.<\/p>\n

Vance has been outspoken about the dangers of addiction in America today, especially the deadly potency of drugs flooding across the southern border. In a 2024 interview, he said candidly, “If the poison that is coming across the border now had been coming across 20 years ago, I don’t think that my mom would be here.”<\/p>\n
