When she passed, I questioned everything and pushed away my faith.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But in the midst of the pain, Baylee turned to music\u2014and ultimately, to God. Writing <em>&#8220;Hey Jesus&#8221;<\/em> became his way back to the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>The moving lyrics captured his raw journey:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hey Jesus, I broke my wings again. Can you help me up one last time, old friend?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh, because I surrender everything to you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh, I&#8217;ve tried to fight all my battles without you by my side. In the dark depths of the night, that&#8217;s where I&#8217;d be without your beautiful light.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/t-Hq2NaWnWE?si=4EOPAzd1z29_lKI8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As Baylee sang with emotion and vulnerability, cameras captured his proud parents\u2014Brian and Leighanne Littrell\u2014silently mouthing the words with tears in their eyes. It was a full-circle moment for Brian, who is open about his own Christian faith and once crossed over into Christian music with his 2005 solo album <em>Welcome Home<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Baylee&#8217;s performance earned high praise from the judges. Carrie Underwood, a fellow Christian and <em>Idol<\/em> alum, called it &#8220;so good&#8221; and &#8220;genuine,&#8221; while Lionel Richie commended Baylee&#8217;s songwriting talent, saying the lyrics were &#8220;great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The powerful moment secured Baylee&#8217;s spot in the next round, while more than half of the 144 contestants were eliminated.<\/p>\n<p>Baylee isn&#8217;t the only child of a music legend to compete this season. Lola Bonfiglio, daughter of Wilson Phillips&#8217; Carnie Wilson, also auditioned but was sent home during Hollywood Week.
