A 5-year-old Michigan boy is being hailed a hero after alerting his mother to a house fire and helping save his siblings\u2019 lives. Juwan Perry Jr. woke up around 4:40 a.m. to smoke and immediately started yelling for his mother, an act she said saved the family from a deadly catastrophe.<\/p>\n

Mom Brittney Lee told WXYZ-TV, becoming tearful as she recounted what unfolded, \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for Juwan, we probably all would be dead. If it wasn\u2019t for him, we wouldn\u2019t be here. He is my hero. Always.\u201d The small child\u2019s call for Lee sent her jumping out of bed. Then, she discovered the unthinkable. She told the outlet, \u201cI instantly jumped up and ran. By the time I made it to their room, everything was on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

She immediately started gathering her seven children to get them out of the home and to safety. Unfortunately, the home was lost, but everyone walked away safe and unscathed. Lee said, \u201cWe lost everything.\u201d Still, she\u2019s grateful for her family\u2019s safety. \u201cThank God that we all made it out safely and nobody got hurt,\u201d Lee\u00a0said<\/a>. As for Juwan, he\u00a0told WXYZ-TV<\/a>\u00a0his motivation for helping save his family despite the fear. \u201cBecause I love everybody,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As it turns out, Juwan is also called a hero by those outside his family. Warren Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams\u00a0told the Detroit Free Press<\/a>\u00a0the boy\u2019s actions were truly brave and beyond what one would expect from a 5-year-old. \u201cThis would have been a tragedy, with everybody sleeping,\u201d McAdams\u00a0said<\/a>. A GoFundMe\u00a0set up by Lee<\/a>\u00a0has raised more than $11,000 of her $45,000 goal.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, my family was left with nothing but the clothes on our backs, no shoes on our feet,\u201d Lee wrote in the description. \u201cAll I\u2019m asking is for just a little help.
