A Florida women won a $2 million lottery prize on Florida Lottery’s Bonus Cashword scratch-off game the day after her daughter received her last treatment for breast cancer. Geraldine Gimblet purchased the winning $10 lottery ticket from Pipkin Road Beverage Castle, saying that the ticket was the last one left. “At first the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best. He found the last one!,” said Gimblet in a press release from the Florida Lottery. In the press release, Gimblet’s daughter, who was not named, shared just how special the lottery win was for her family. “The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer,” said Gimblet’s daughter. When a patient “rings the bell,” that signifies that the patient has finished their cancer treatment, a common ritual at medical facilities. “My mom had taken out her life savings to take care of me when I was sick. I’m just so happy for her!”<\/p>\n

Gimblet arrived at the lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to collect her prize money while she was accompanied by her daughter and granddaughter. The chief staff of the Florida Lottery, Reggie Dixon, heard the heartwarming story and joined Gimblet in her celebration. After taxes, Gimblet collected $1,645,000 rewards after state and federal taxes were removed.
