A heartbreaking search came to an end last week after a missing 4-year-old Florida boy was found dead in the Alabama woods, days after wandering away from a rural property during a New Year\u2019s visit with family.<\/p>\n

Authorities say little Johnathan Everett \u201cJohn John\u201d Boley disappeared on New Year\u2019s Eve from a home along Highway 195 near Jasper, Alabama. The Walker County Sheriff\u2019s Office said the child had been playing outside with his dog before he vanished, prompting an urgent and large-scale search effort.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of officers, volunteers, K-9 teams, drones, and aircraft combed several square miles of thickly wooded terrain for three days. On Jan. 2, searchers located John John\u2019s body roughly two miles from the home. His dog was found alive nearby. Officials said the autopsy is still pending, and a cause of death has not yet been released.<\/p>\n

Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith shared the emotional news during a press conference, saying, \u201cThis is not the outcome anyone hoped for. Our hearts go out to this family and everyone who worked tirelessly to bring this child home.\u201d<\/p>\n

John John and his siblings lived in Florida with their mother and were visiting their father for the holidays under a custody arrangement, authorities said. The boy was last seen wearing a yellow Mickey Mouse shirt, black pants, and Paw Patrol shoes.<\/p>\n

Father Arrested on Unrelated Charge<\/h2>\n

As the search unfolded, investigators announced the arrest of the boy\u2019s father, 40-year-old Jameson Kyle Boley, on charges unrelated to the child\u2019s disappearance. According to court documents, Boley was charged with unlawful manufacture of a destructive device after investigators discovered precursor materials at the home.<\/p>\n

Police emphasized that the charge had nothing to do with John John\u2019s death. Sheriff Smith told reporters, \u201cAt this time, there is no evidence indicating foul play in the child\u2019s death, and these charges should not be conflated with the search for Johnathan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Community Mourns a Life Cut Short<\/p>\n

News of the boy\u2019s death rippled through his community in Parrish, Florida, where residents gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor his memory and support his grieving family.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor so many of us, our hearts are broken over the tragic loss,\u201d said Reverend Douglas Scharf, bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida.<\/p>\n

Authorities have asked the public to allow the family space and privacy to mourn. More information is expected to be released after further investigation.<\/p>\n
