The Marquette University community is reeling after a drunk driving crash claimed the lives of two men\u2019s lacrosse players last week in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n

Authorities say 41-year-old Amandria Brunner of West Allis was drunk when she turned left in front of a vehicle carrying six Marquette athletes on September 5. The crash killed sophomore goalie Scott Michaud, 19, of Springboro, Ohio, and sophomore attackman Noah Snyder, 20, of Irving, New York. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Brunner now faces two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle while having a prior intoxicant-related conviction. If convicted, she could spend up to 80 years in prison.<\/p>\n

According to the criminal complaint, Brunner\u2019s blood alcohol level was 0.133, well over the legal limit of 0.08. Police found an open beer can in her truck, and a witness reported she \u201csmelled of alcohol and kept trying to put gum in her mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officers also noted she had \u201cbloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty keeping her balance,\u201d CBS affiliate WDJT reported. Brunner allegedly admitted to drinking two Steel Reserve beers before getting behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

Crash data showed she had paused for about three seconds before pulling into the intersection, pressing her accelerator nearly to the floor. Traveling just under 12 mph, she struck the SUV carrying the athletes without ever braking.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t Brunner\u2019s first offense. Records show at least four prior convictions for operating while intoxicated, including one in 2003.<\/p>\n

Both victims were standout students and athletes. They were recently named to the Big East All-Academic Team for maintaining grade-point averages above 3.0. Snyder, who played in 13 of 14 games last season, collected nine goals and seven assists.<\/p>\n

Marquette President Kimo Ah Yun urged the community to rally in prayer: \u201cPlease keep Noah and Scott\u2019s parents, siblings and families, and the Marquette Athletics and college communities in your prayers. Noah and Scott\u2019s lives were taken too soon and we share in the heartbreak of their teammates, coaches and those who knew them personally.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, the university canceled all home athletic events and held a Mass at the Varsity Theater to honor the young men.<\/p>\n

The loss reverberated beyond Marquette. World Lacrosse, the sport\u2019s international governing body, issued a heartfelt statement: \u201cWorld Lacrosse is heartbroken by the loss of Noah Snyder, who proudly represented the Haudenosaunee at the recent World Lacrosse Men\u2019s U20 Championship, and his Marquette University teammate, Scott Michaud. Noah played the game with heart, joy, and pride in his heritage, leaving a lasting impression on all who shared the field with him. Our deepest condolences go out to the families, friends, teammates, and communities of both Noah and Scott as we mourn this devastating loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the Marquette community grieves, many are leaning on faith for comfort. The reminder is sobering: alcohol-impaired driving continues to devastate lives. Yet even in sorrow, Christians look to Christ\u2019s promise of eternal life and the hope of reunion.<\/p>\n
