A young mother was swept to her death while hiking near a popular Southern California trail after being caught in powerful river currents, officials said.<\/p>\n

The tragedy unfolded near the Bridge to Nowhere trail in the Angeles National Forest, where members of the San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team were already stationed that morning, warning hikers about dangerous river crossings.<\/p>\n

Then, suddenly, the emergency they feared became real.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn an instant, everything changed,\u201d the San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team said in a news release describing the moment the emergency began.<\/p>\n

As rescuers spoke with hikers about river safety around 8 a.m., a desperate runner suddenly came racing up the trail.<\/p>\n

\u201cA frantic runner came charging up the trail yelling for help,\u201d the rescue team said. \u201cA young mother had fallen in at the second river crossing and was swept away by the raging current.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trail requires hikers to cross the East Fork of the San Gabriel River multiple times, and recent weather conditions had made the water especially swift and dangerous.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur worst fears became reality,\u201d rescuers said.<\/p>\n

Emergency crews responded immediately. Multiple agencies joined the search effort, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Air Operations, the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department Aero Bureau and the San Dimas Sheriff\u2019s Station.<\/p>\n

Rescuers launched a large-scale search operation along the river, hoping to find the woman alive. Sadly, after an extensive effort, crews located her body downstream. She was pronounced deceased, and the mission shifted from rescue to recovery.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not publicly released the woman\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n

For the rescuers who were already nearby when the tragedy happened, the loss was deeply personal. After the recovery, they spent time comforting the woman\u2019s devastated loved ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll we could offer were hugs, water, shade, and our presence in their darkest moment,\u201d the rescue team said. \u201cNo words can fix this kind of loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tragedy has also prompted renewed warnings from officials about the dangerous conditions along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. High water levels and fast-moving currents have made river crossings along the Bridge to Nowhere Trail particularly hazardous in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

Authorities are now urging hikers to avoid the area until water levels drop significantly.<\/p>\n

\u201cTurn around if the water looks too fast or too deep,\u201d rescuers cautioned. \u201cYour life is worth more than any hike.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the family of the young mother who lost her life, the warning comes too late. What began as a day outdoors ended in unimaginable grief.<\/p>\n
