On June 15, 2014,\u00a0Kemal Amin “Casey” Kasem\u00a0died at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington at the age of 82. He was survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren.<\/p>\n

Kasem was an American disc jockey, radio personality and actor. He\u00a0is\u00a0best known for being the host of the music radio programs American Top 40, American Top 20, and American Top 10 from 1970 until his retirement in 2009, when he passed the torch on to Ryan Seacrest.\u00a0Kasem also voiced Norville “Shaggy” Rogers in the Scooby-Doo franchise from 1969 to 1997, and again from 2002 until 2009.<\/p>\n

Kasem was active in politics for years, supporting Lebanese-American and Arab-American causes. He sought out to help revolutionize the rights for Lebanese and Arab – Americans by\u00a0writing a brochure published by the Arab American Institute entitled “Arab-Americans: Making a Difference”.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Kasem’s famous voice\u00a0served as the voice-over for\u00a0companies and products like A&P, Chevron, Ford, Red Lobster, Raid, Oscar Mayer, Hoover vacuum cleaners, Velveeta, Joy dishwashing liquid, Heinz ketchup, Sears, Prestone, Dairy Queen, Continental Airlines, the California Raisin Advisory Board, the National Cancer Institute, Sprint,\u00a0and promos for the NBC television network .<\/p>\n

Kasem’s legacy will live on through his successful radio programs and the various works that he’s contributed to the\u00a0broadcasting industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
