{"id":870,"date":"2007-02-28T16:53:00","date_gmt":"2007-02-28T16:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/idolchatter\/2007\/02\/everybodys-got-religion-this-week.html"},"modified":"2007-02-28T16:53:00","modified_gmt":"2007-02-28T16:53:00","slug":"everybodys-got-religion-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/idolchatter\/2007\/02\/everybodys-got-religion-this-week.html","title":{"rendered":"Everybody&#8217;s Got Religion This Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.beliefnet.com\/imgs\/tout\/story\/NBCHeroes060922.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 8px\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/>Between &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fox.com\/24\/episodes\/\" target=\"_New\">24<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\/Heroes\/\" target=\"_New\">Heroes<\/a>&#8221; on Monday and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwtv.com\/shows\/gilmore-girls\" target=\"_New\">Gilmore Girls<\/a>&#8221; last night, television viewers are getting a heavy dose of religion.<\/p>\n<p>With the recent re-appearance of the shamed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fox.com\/24\/character\/season5\/cl.htm\" target=\"_New\">President Charles Logan from Season 5<\/a>&#8211;Jack needs his help tracking down a Russian terrorist&#8211;suddenly talk has turned to prayer, redemption, and forgiveness.  When Jack questions Logan&#8217;s motivation to help his country (and rightly so), Logan urges Jack to believe that he has &#8220;re-found&#8221; religion and his true goal is redemption.<\/p>\n<p>On the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\/Heroes\/episodes\/\" target=\"_New\">&#8220;Heroes&#8221; episode &#8220;Company Man,&#8221;<\/a> Claire&#8217;s Mom finally sees what her &#8220;special&#8221; daughter can really do&#8211;come back from the dead&#8211;and Mom begins talking about resurrection (Claire&#8217;s that is) and the role of faith in surviving the latest family crisis.<\/p>\n<p>And then on the &#8220;Gilmore Girls&#8221; episode &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwtv.com\/shows\/gilmore-girls\/episodes\" target=\"_New\">Will You Be My Lorelai Gilmore?<\/a>&#8221; Lorelai ends up negotiating a truce between Lane&#8211;about to give birth to twin boys&#8211;and her fundamentalist Christian mom.  Mom wants the boys raised as good Christians, and Lane says absolutely not: her kids are going to have the &#8220;freedom <em>from <\/em>religion&#8221; that she never enjoyed growing up.  But when Lorelai suggests to Lane that maybe her kids will actually <em>want<\/em> church, Bible camp, and all the related stuff that Lane hated when she was a child, though shocked at the thought, Lane caves to Lorelai&#8217;s sense, and Mom and Lane make up.<\/p>\n<p>So everybody&#8217;s jumping on the television religion bandwagon this week, and with a new &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/lost\">Lost<\/a>&#8221; airing tonight, I&#8217;m guessing we&#8217;re not done yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Between &#8220;24&#8221; and &#8220;Heroes&#8221; on Monday and &#8220;Gilmore Girls&#8221; last night, television viewers are getting a heavy dose of religion.
