healthcare mandate requiring faith-based institutions to cover contraception.\u00a0 We ask ourselves if this is a breach of religious liberty and if so, how will this fight will end?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/87\/2012\/05\/Priest.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8249\" title=\"Priest\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/87\/2012\/05\/Priest.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Religious freedom is one of the themes tackled in <strong>FOR GREATER GLORY<\/strong>, an independent film that isn\u2019t released in theaters until June 1.\u00a0 The film chronicles a little known civil war that took place in Mexico during the early to mid- 1920s.\u00a0 Known as the <em>Cristero War<\/em>, the movie begins when Plutarco Calles, the newly elected President of Mexico, promises his people an age of enlightenment and modernization.\u00a0 He views Christianity, and specifically Catholic leaders, as a backwards threat to his goals and soon enacts a series of laws that at first restricts religious freedoms such as displacing or deporting \u201cforeign\u201d priests and ministers, but increasingly becomes persecution against anyone critical or opposed to his policies.<\/p>\n<p>The people\u2019s increasing resistance against Calles\u2019 government is one of the most interesting aspects of this film.\u00a0 What starts as marches and economic boycotts to voice displeasure against the government, eventually shifts into an armed underdog and underground resistance movement as Calles and his troops become increasing hostile and then violent.\u00a0 Men AND women are equally portrayed doing what they must to contribute to the fight against oppression.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/87\/2012\/05\/FGG-lady.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8250\" title=\"FGG lady\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/87\/2012\/05\/FGG-lady.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Academy Award\u00ae nominee Andy Garcia <em>(The Godfather III<\/em>) headlines an acclaimed cast as General Gorostieta, a retired military man who at first thinks he has nothing personal at stake as he and his wife (Golden Globe winner Eva Longoria) watch Mexico fall into a violent civil war.\u00a0 Yet the man who hesitates in joining the cause will soon become the resistance\u2019s most inspiring and self-sacrificing leader, as he begins to see the cost of religious persecution on his countrymen.\u00a0 He is joined by Academy Award\u00ae winner Peter O\u2019Toole (<em>Lawrence of Arabia<\/em>), Academy Award\u00ae nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (<em>Maria Full Of Grace<\/em>), rapidly rising star Oscar Issac (<em>Drive, Robyn Hood<\/em>), Bruce Greenwood (<em>Star Trek, Super 8<\/em>), Nestor Carbonell (<em>The Dark Knight Risses<\/em>), and Eduardo Ver\u00e1stegui (<em>Bella).\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>FOR GREATER GLORY<\/strong> is both inspiring and heartbreaking.\u00a0 \u00a0Inspiring because we can celebrate the triumph of humanity, courage, and absolute faith, and heartbreaking because freedom does come at a high cost, including the loss of loved ones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/87\/2012\/05\/FGG-Mauricio.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8251\" title=\"FGG- Mauricio\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/87\/2012\/05\/FGG-Mauricio.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The movie brings up some key issues with regards to religious freedom and government interference.\u00a0 It is beautifully shot and it strikes a chord especially as a debate is happening within our own country.\u00a0 <strong>The film will release in theaters on
