\"\"<\/a>Raising kids in the media age can be\u00a0challenging\u00a0and terrifying. My 5 year old daughter not only knows how to turn on the Xbox and boot up Netflix’s instant streaming service, she’s also able to spell out the titles to shows she wants to watch and find them using the search feature. While I’m quite proud of her little geek skills, I’m also petrified at what she might be able to inadvertently find. Even with programming aimed at children there are no guarantees. I once almost choked on my food when a kids’ movie trotted out the d-word and my 3 year old son stood up on the couch and yelled it in perfect imitation.<\/p>\n

That’s why Veggie Tales <\/em>is always such a relief. Not only am I spared the possibility of having a conversation with my kids about why they shouldn’t say certain words or why certain behaviors are ‘ugly,’ I personally enjoy watching it myself. There’s humor and wit that I can appreciate, and a solid story grounded in truth that I’m happy to expose my little ones to.<\/p>\n

Well, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber are back this Christmas season with a retelling of the age-old classic, The Little Drummer Boy. <\/em>Here’s the synopsis straight from the creators themselves:<\/p>\n

In this Veggie-version of a holiday classic, Junior Asparagus stars as The Little Drummer Boy, a lonely child who finds the true meaning of Christmas when he stumbles upon the birth of the baby Jesus. A story of generosity, hope and love, this timeless tale will warm the hearts of children everywhere!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The DVD is out right now (you can purchase it here<\/a>), and the trailer is below for your viewing pleasure. I look forward to sitting down with my babies soon and watching this. Afterwards, I can not only explain the birth of Jesus to them, but also what a ‘sand speeder’ is.<\/p>\n
