Something remarkable is happening in the rock music industry, according to Skillet frontman John Cooper. He says a growing number of musicians are turning to Jesus Christ, including some of the genre’s biggest names.

The outspoken Christian rocker recently told ChurchLeaders that he had just learned of another high-profile musician who had become a Christian, adding to what he believes is a powerful movement of God taking place behind the scenes.

“I just found out another iconic musician became a Christian yesterday. I don’t know if we were allowed to say it or not, so I won’t say his name, but I was lit up yesterday,” Cooper shared.

While Cooper kept the musician’s identity private, he said several prominent rock stars have publicly opened up about their Christian faith.

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan declared himself a Christian in a September podcast interview, calling Jesus “my Lord and Savior.”

Papa Roach singer Jacoby Shaddix has also spoken about his conversion and journey out of addiction, declaring earlier this year, “I’m a full-blown believer now.”

Other musicians, including Creed frontman Scott Stapp and the late 3 Doors Down singer Brad Arnold, have discussed their relationships with God. Arnold frequently shared Jesus’ love with concert audiences, while Stapp has emphasized prayer and scripture.

“God is doing all sorts of incredible things in this market,” Cooper said. “It doesn’t always look like traditional Christianity.”

Cooper acknowledged that some newly converted musicians continue to struggle with habits from their former lives, but he cautioned Christians against judging someone’s faith solely by outward behavior.

He described one well-known rocker whose life had been transformed after years of addiction, infidelity and personal struggles. Although the musician still occasionally uses profanity, Cooper said the transformation has been undeniable.

“I don’t think that Christ would hear that conversation and say, ‘My takeaway is the f-word,’” Cooper explained.

“Now, would I like the language to change? He knows I would. We’ve talked about it.”

The Skillet singer also said musicians from secular bands touring alongside his group have begun showing an interest in studying the Bible.

One musician who recently committed his life to Christ approached Cooper about starting a Bible study. Another musician soon asked to join.

Cooper said some of these new believers are already sharing their faith and helping others overcome addiction, even as they continue to grow spiritually themselves.

He recalled learning about one musician who had quietly led four others to Christ and personally helped struggling friends enter rehabilitation.

For Cooper, those stories are a reminder that spiritual growth is a process, and that Christians should extend grace to those just beginning their walk with Jesus.

His message is clear: God is working in unexpected places, including an industry that isn’t typically associated with the Christian faith. The transformation underway may be far greater than audiences realize.
