Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott credited God after Sunday’s 34-30 comeback victory over the Houston Texans, saying Christian faith is becoming more visible in the team’s culture.

Dallas overcame a double-digit deficit to improve to 2-2, with Prescott completing 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown. His biggest throw came with just 40 seconds remaining, when he connected with CeeDee Lamb for a 12-yard touchdown to secure the victory.

Asked after the game whether Cowboys players were expressing their faith more openly, Prescott quickly answered, “Absolutely.”

“That’s who I am,” Prescott said. “That’s who a lot of our guys on our team are.”

Prescott said players want their faith to “be contagious” in the locker room and see their platform as having a purpose beyond the field.

“We’re all here because of God, and we’re all here to serve a greater purpose,” he said.

That perspective, Prescott explained, shapes how the team responds no matter the final score.

“It’s about opening your perspective up when things happen, win, lose or draw and asking, ‘What’s the purpose?’” he said. “We know what God wants us to do in our response, and that’s being the best versions of ourselves, serving Him, serving others.”

Prescott credited head coach Brian Schottenheimer with fostering an environment where players can openly express their beliefs, and he pointed to team chaplains Jonathan Evans and Tony Evans.

The quarterback said his own relationship with God has been strengthened by the hardships he has faced throughout his life and career.

“I’ve been through so much in my life. God’s always been the reason and, yeah, who I fall back on and my refuge, as I say,” Prescott said. “I can’t thank Him enough and never will be able to thank Him enough.”

Seeing that same faith spread throughout the team, he added, has been “special.”

Prescott has spoken publicly about Christianity throughout his NFL career, including after suffering a devastating season-ending ankle injury in 2020.

While recovering, Prescott said his “faith is doubled down more than ever” and expressed confidence that God had a larger purpose for what he was experiencing.

Months later, after signing a four-year, $160 million contract with Dallas, Prescott described himself as someone who “lives and stands and moves every part of his body off the word ‘faith.’”

Years later, Prescott says those beliefs are no longer just part of his own journey. They are becoming part of what binds the Cowboys together.

“At the end of the day, it’s about giving Him the glory,” Prescott said. “From that, good things will come. All great things will come. And so, I’m thankful for that.”
