Christian actor Jarret LeMaster has built an unusual r\u00e9sum\u00e9. The former worship leader has portrayed Satan, Judas Iscariot and even Adolf Hitler. Now, he’s trading villains for one of pop culture’s most recognizable heroes: Bumblebee.<\/p>\n

LeMaster voices the Autobot in “Optimus Prime: Awakening,” an animated short accompanying the 40th anniversary theatrical rerelease of “The Transformers: The Movie.” But despite his new heroic role, LeMaster says playing bad guys has worked surprisingly well with both his Christian faith and his commitment to his family.<\/p>\n

One reason is a personal boundary he has set as an actor: He doesn’t want to kiss another woman on camera.<\/p>\n

“I don’t wanna kiss anybody, and, so, playing bad guys makes a lot of sense for me,” LeMaster told Fox News Digital. “They never kiss anybody, you know. They just murder them.”<\/p>\n

“When you’re murdering somebody, you’re always pretending,” he explained. “When you’re kissing someone, you are always actually kissing them. And, so, you know, that’s my line. I don’t wanna cross that line.”<\/p>\n

LeMaster spent years working in church ministry and continues to volunteer and lead worship at his local church. His acting career took an unexpected turn when Christian satire outlet The Babylon Bee asked him to portray a Russian murderer in a comedy sketch.<\/p>\n

One villain led to another.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know why I always get cast as bad characters,” LeMaster joked. “I think it’s probably just because I’m bald.”<\/p>\n

Some of those roles have raised eyebrows among fellow Christians. LeMaster said people have questioned his portrayals of Satan, Hitler and “Woke Jesus.” Bumblebee, however, has proven far less controversial.<\/p>\n

“The one that is not offensive is Bumblebee,” he joked. “People are very excited about that for some reason.”<\/p>\n

The new “Transformers” project pairs LeMaster with legendary voice actors Frank Welker and the late Peter Cullen. LeMaster said he initially thought he was simply helping a friend with a small project before realizing the significance of what he had joined.<\/p>\n

For LeMaster, even voicing a fictional robot can become an opportunity to reflect on his faith.<\/p>\n

“It’s an opportunity to sort of spread good news in the kingdom through, you know, robots,” he said.<\/p>\n

Yet Satan remains one of his favorite characters to portray, particularly in The Babylon Bee’s satirical sketches. Rather than depicting the devil as a terrifying supernatural figure, LeMaster often plays him more like an exasperated corporate manager trying to keep his operation running.<\/p>\n

Beneath the comedy, however, is a serious idea about the nature of evil.<\/p>\n

“There’s nothing that the devil can create in and of himself,” LeMaster said. “He can only take what’s good, and he can twist it.”<\/p>\n

That belief also shapes the way he approaches villains. Instead of viewing them as evil simply for evil’s sake, he looks for something that may have started with a good motivation before becoming corrupted.<\/p>\n

“You always start with a good guy, and then you can twist it to something evil,” LeMaster said. “That’s kind of what I think the best villains end up being like.”<\/p>\n

After years of portraying some of history and Christianity’s most notorious villains, LeMaster now gets a chance to fight for the good guys \u2014 while still finding a way to connect his work back to his faith.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
