Some of America’s top golfers are opening up about the Christian faith that has strengthened their friendships and helped them remember that their identity is about much more than what happens on the course.<\/p>\n

As members of the 2026 U.S. Presidents Cup team prepared to compete at Medinah Country Club, Jacob Bridgeman, Russell Henley, Sam Burns and other players spoke with OutKick about how faith influences their lives and relationships.<\/p>\n

For Bridgeman, Christianity helped build friendships with several of his teammates before they ever joined forces for the Presidents Cup.<\/p>\n

“I think probably my relationships with Russell, Sam, [and] Scottie have all kind of come from our faith, us being in this community together and all sharing the same background and the same beliefs,” Bridgeman said.<\/p>\n

Burns said his faith also changes how he approaches competition, particularly when the pressure to perform becomes intense.<\/p>\n

“It gives me a lot of freedom to go out and compete and know that no matter what happens, my identity is not in the result of the match, the result of the Presidents Cup,” Burns said. “It’s in my faith and being a believer in Jesus.”<\/p>\n

U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker said faith has helped bring some of the golfers closer. Players regularly spend time together away from competition, including participating in Bible studies while on Tour.<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely helped bond those guys for sure,” Snedeker said. “They spend a lot of time together. They have Bible studies together on Tour.”<\/p>\n

Henley said Bible studies are typically held on Tuesday nights during Tour events. He has also worked through a book with someone from College Golf Fellowship, a Christian ministry serving golfers and coaches, and participates in a weekly conference call.<\/p>\n

That Christian community has also helped younger golfers navigate the pressure that comes with playing professionally.<\/p>\n

Bridgeman said veteran players helped him recognize that a scorecard does not determine his worth.<\/p>\n

“I think over the last few years, I’ve grown a lot in my understanding that I’m not measured by the number that I shoot,” he said. “Even though I shoot a 65, I’m not any better of a person than the day when I shoot a 75.”<\/p>\n

Henley expressed a similar perspective. While faith does not necessarily make him play better, he said his belief in Jesus gives him peace about what comes after his golf career \u2014 and after this life.<\/p>\n

“I think knowing that I’m going to have a place in heaven because of what I believe and what Jesus has done for me, not anything I’ve done, because of what he’s done, definitely gives me peace,” Henley said.<\/p>\n

That doesn’t mean frustration disappears.<\/p>\n

Burns previously joked that golf tests his faith “every day,” noting how a good shot can produce a bad result while a poor shot can sometimes work out unexpectedly.<\/p>\n

“Ultimately, it’s a game that teaches you a lot about life and definitely can make you realize what’s most important,” Burns said.<\/p>\n

Cameron Young said family provides a similar reminder. As much as he cares about competing and performing well, a difficult day on the golf course remains just that \u2014 a difficult day.<\/p>\n

“When you don’t play well, it’s just not the end of the world,” Young said. “My children are healthy, my family’s healthy, that’s where things are hard. Golf is not hard in that sense.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
