The programmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/mediacentre\/2026\/bbc-landmark-series-life-and-world-of-jesus-christ\">framed the series<\/a> as an \u201cambitious new landmark series\u201d set to air in 2027. \u201cDrawing on the latest historical research, archaeological discoveries, technological innovation and expert testimony, this four-part series will expand and sharpen our understanding of one the most influential people in history,\u201d said BBC. The UK-based Wonderhood Studios is producing the series. Per the BBC, the series will rely on \u201cvisceral, intimate detail\u201d and will include information found in the Gospels \u201cand elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daisy Scalchi, BBC Head of Religion and Ethics, TV vowed that the series would \u201cbring [Jesus Christ\u2019s] life into focus like never before\u201d and that it would \u201cre-look at the evidence and follow the path of Jesus\u2019 life to map how he sparked a revolution that continues to impact our lives over 2000 years later.\u201d Wonderhood Studios\u2019s Creative Director, Tom Garton, said the series would offer deeper insight into \u201cthe people, places, beliefs and conflicts that shaped [Jesus\u2019s] life and the world-changing religion that followed.\u201d He said the studio was \u201cproud\u201d to be working on the series.<\/p>\n<p>The new series seems to be leaning into the growth of Christian religious content that media has been producing in the last decade. The popularity of Dallas Jenkins\u2019s \u201cThe Chosen\u201d has led to a number of Christian-based media, including the animated \u201cDavid\u201d movie for children, the \u201cHouse of David\u201d series on Amazon Prime, and Mel Gibson\u2019s upcoming \u201cThe Passion of the Christ\u201d sequel, \u201cThe Resurrection of the Christ.\u201d However, the BBC\u2019s statement is somewhat vague on what it will make of Jesus\u2019s portrayal as the Son of God or his resurrection, whether or not each will be treated as historical fact or inspiring legend. The BBC did state the series would include input from \u201cmajor Christian thinkers\u201d but it also included that there would be input from \u201cJewish and Muslim faith leaders.\u201d \u00a0While Jewish faith leaders could certainly give insight into Old and New Testament Jewish life, Muslims hold Jesus in a different light than Christians. While acknowledging Him as an important figure within the Quran, Jesus is not portrayed as the Son of God and his death and resurrection are denied. \u201cI fear this will be a unashamed hit job on Christian orthodoxy,\u201d wrote one user on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/gsimm1928\/status\/2071638729471471749\">X<\/a> following the show\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The BBC has announced it will be airing a new four-part documentary series exploring the life of Jesus Christ.
