Professional magician Dustin Tavella has amazed audiences with his mind-bending illusions, but the winner of America’s Got Talent<\/em> says the greatest story behind his success isn’t about magic\u2014it’s about God’s faithfulness.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with CBN News, Tavella shared how a simple moment at a coffee shop reignited a childhood passion that ultimately led him to national fame. More importantly, he believes it was all part of God’s plan.<\/p>\n

Tavella said he had loved magic as a child but had long since left it behind. Years later, while meeting a friend for coffee, everything changed.<\/p>\n

“We’re at a coffee shop one day and [my friend] just busted out a deck of cards, and some coins, and, man, it was like all of a sudden there’s all these people around, different ages, different skin colors, different backgrounds,” Tavella recalled. “And I was like, this one simple thing’s brought all these people together because I watched them become like children in that moment.”<\/p>\n

That encounter stirred something deep inside him.<\/p>\n

“I felt like God was like highlighting this,” he said. “So I went home and told my wife. I was like, ‘Babe, I’m a magician now.’ Like, that’s what every wife wants to hear, right?”<\/p>\n

Instead of dismissing what sounded like an unlikely career change, Tavella said his wife embraced the idea wholeheartedly. Even more remarkably, she believed God had spoken to her about what would happen next.<\/p>\n

“She went on a run one day and was praying, and she was like, ‘I don’t know why this sounds crazy, but I feel like God just told me you’re gonna win ‘America’s Got Talent’ doing these magic tricks and stuff,'” Tavella recalled.<\/p>\n

At the time, he thought the idea was impossible.<\/p>\n

“It was crazy,” he said. “I was like, ‘I’m not even gonna get on the show, let alone win this show.’ But my wife’s always right.”<\/p>\n

The prediction came while Tavella was running a homeless ministry, not pursuing television fame. Yet two and a half years later, he auditioned for America’s Got Talent<\/em> and ultimately won the competition, launching his career before a national audience.<\/p>\n

Behind that success, Tavella says, is a testimony of God’s transforming power.<\/p>\n

He described growing up in a deeply broken home where “drugs, alcohol, affairs,” and dysfunction were commonplace. His father dealt drugs, and his parents’ marriage was falling apart.<\/p>\n

“That’s how my parents met,” he said. “The beginning of my life, my parents were just complete dysfunction.”<\/p>\n

Everything changed when a Christian couple entered their lives.<\/p>\n

Tavella said the couple helped his parents get sober, introduced them to Christ, and walked alongside them as they rebuilt their family.<\/p>\n

“As I was growing up, I was watching my parents grow with the Lord,” he said. “I was watching, like, as all this nonsense was eliminated from our family, I was like, ‘This is crazy.'”<\/p>\n

Witnessing that transformation shaped his own faith. While many of his peers were drawn toward partying and destructive choices, Tavella said he had no desire to follow that path.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want anything to do with this, man,” he recalled thinking.<\/p>\n

Looking back, he believes God was protecting him from repeating the mistakes that once defined his family’s story. Today, Tavella uses both his platform and his performances to point audiences beyond the illusion, sharing the hope he says can only be found in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
