The Masters of the Universe<\/em> reboot may be packed with swords, monsters, and epic battles, but actor and Christian speaker Kirk Cameron believes the film’s deeper message is what makes it truly worth discussing.<\/p>\n

Speaking on a recent episode of The Kirk Cameron Show<\/em> podcast, Cameron reflected on the themes at the heart of the new live-action adaptation of the beloved 1980s cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe<\/em>. While the movie follows Prince Adam’s journey to become He-Man and save the kingdom of Eternia, Cameron said the story raises an important question that resonates far beyond the fantasy genre.<\/p>\n

“Masters of the Universe<\/em> is back with a new reboot,” Cameron said<\/a>. “I thought it was really cool that, underneath all the swords, the monsters, the special effects, there is a really important question that the movie asks: what happens when ordinary people are given extraordinary power? And do they have the character to use it?”<\/p>\n

The film centers on Prince Adam, who returns to Eternia after 15 years away and must embrace his destiny as He-Man, described as “the most powerful man in the universe.” For Cameron, that journey mirrors a timeless biblical truth about responsibility, maturity, and the struggle between good and evil.<\/p>\n

He described the movie as “a story of good and evil, and coming of age, and embracing responsibility.”<\/p>\n

“We know that life is a battle between light and darkness, and it’s also a reflection of the battle that rages inside of every one of our own hearts,” Cameron said. “This is the great newsflash of the Bible.”<\/p>\n

Cameron was particularly encouraged by the film’s portrayal of strength. Rather than focusing solely on physical power, he said the story highlights qualities such as humility, self-control, compassion, and service.<\/p>\n

“Masters of the Universe<\/em> seems to say that real strength is not just about biceps and how hard you can hit somebody,” he explained. “It’s also about character and self-control, humility, learning to rely on others, compassion and the ability to serve something bigger than yourself.”<\/p>\n

That message led Cameron to draw a direct comparison to Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

“The strongest man who ever lived is Jesus Christ, and Jesus was not weak,” he said. “He could raise the dead, but He could also kneel down and wash his disciples’ feet. He would welcome children. He wept at his friend’s tomb. And He could forgive the people who nailed Him to a cross. So, that’s not weakness. That is strength under control, motivated by love.”<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Cameron is not the only one who sees deeper themes within the franchise. In an interview<\/a> with TODAY, actor Dolph Lundgren, who played He-Man in the 1987 live-action adaptation, said the story is ultimately “about finding your inner power” and believing in yourself.<\/p>\n

Director Travis Knight echoed that sentiment, describing the film as “funny,” “engaging,” and full of heart while also having “something to say.”<\/p>\n

The movie has also earned praise from Movieguide, which commended the reboot for its “strong uplifting moral, redemptive, pro-family content.”<\/p>\n
