Television host and comedian Steve Harvey is known for making audiences laugh, but recently he used a national platform to share a deeper message about faith, gratitude, and generosity.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Social Innovation Summit in Atlanta, Harvey reflected on the role God has played in his success and why he believes every blessing comes with a responsibility to help others.<\/p>\n

“The more God trusts you, the more he will bless you, but he has to trust you with what he’s going to give,” Harvey told The Associated Press. “And a part of what he is going to give to you is going to require that you take a portion of it and return the favor.”<\/p>\n

For Harvey, that philosophy is not just a talking point. It has become a guiding principle for his life and charitable work through The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which he operates alongside his wife, Marjorie Harvey. The foundation focuses on mentoring young people and helping them develop the tools needed for success in life.<\/p>\n

Harvey said his commitment to philanthropy began long before he became a household name. He credits his mother for teaching him a lesson that has stayed with him throughout his career.<\/p>\n

“She always raised me to believe that God blesses you to become a blessing,” Harvey said. “You have to give to people without expecting anything in return. It’s your job.”<\/p>\n

That perspective has shaped how he approaches helping others. Harvey said people often try to judge whether someone is deserving of assistance, but he believes that misses the point.<\/p>\n

“When you give to somebody, you don’t have the right to make the determination what they need it for,” he explained. “If you do it with the intent to help, the reward is given back to you.”<\/p>\n

His comments come at a time when many Americans are debating issues related to poverty, charity, and personal responsibility. Harvey suggested that some people struggle to understand those facing hardship because they have never experienced it themselves.<\/p>\n

“People who don’t know what it is like to be without, they come from a different perspective,” he said. “They don’t know what it is to grovel.”<\/p>\n

Rather than judging others, Harvey believes people should take time to listen and understand the challenges many families face. He argued that compassion grows when people are willing to hear one another’s stories.<\/p>\n

Harvey has also worked to pass those values on to his children. Although they grew up with opportunities he never had, he said he made sure they understood that their advantages were gifts, not entitlements.<\/p>\n

“You don’t have the right to think you are better than anybody else,” he recalled teaching them.<\/p>\n

One lesson he emphasized centered on the difference between justice, mercy, and grace. “Justice is when you get what you deserve. Mercy is when you don’t get what you deserve. But grace is when you get what you don’t deserve,” Harvey said. “My children were born into grace.”<\/p>\n

That same focus on character development drives the foundation’s annual mentorship camp for boys. While Harvey noted that the program has evolved over the years to meet the needs of a new generation, its core mission remains unchanged: preparing young men for the realities of life.<\/p>\n

“We still show them how life really works,” he said. “You don’t get participation trophies in life.”<\/p>\n

For Christians, Harvey’s message echoes biblical principles found throughout Scripture\u2014that blessings are not meant to stop with us but to flow through us. Whether through financial generosity, mentorship, encouragement, or service, Harvey believes God’s gifts carry a purpose beyond personal success.<\/p>\n
