The much-debated UFC Freedom 250 event has come and gone and along with it many memorable moments. While critics decried the spectacle of a UFC match on White House grounds as a desecration of decorum, the event showed itself as a smorgasbord of American iconography, brutal defeats and victories, and, of course, controversy befitting an event that coincided with President Trump\u2019s 80th<\/sup> birthday. While the internet is abuzz with outrage (and some support) for fighter Josh Hokit calling Michelle Obama a man, another moment is sparking praise from Christians throughout social media.<\/p>\n

Brazilian UFC lightweight contender Mauricio Ruffy faced off against veteran fighter Matt Chandler during the event. Ruffy knocked out Chandler in the first round in a stunning defeat. After the victory, rather than focus on himself, Ruffy turned his focus to Christ. \u201c\u2018For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,\u2019\u201d said Ruffy<\/a>, quoting John 3:16 in English. \u201cJesus saved my life; he wants to save your life, too.\u00a0Give your life to Jesus.\u201d Ruffy continued his testimony on Instagram, writing in Portuguese, \u201cJesus completely changed my story, and He has His arms open to transform yours too. Our greatest victory is not achieved by our own strength, but when we let Him take control of everything. The victory at the White House was very special, but the main message I want to share with you today is something else. Surrender your life to Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n

To make the night even more special, Ruffy took the opportunity to ask his girlfriend, Nadine, to marry him<\/a>. \u201cWhat better place to ask my wife to get married?\u201d announced Ruffy’s translator said from the Octagon. \u201cNadine, I love you. Would you marry me, since we’re right here at the White House?\u201d Announcer Joe Rogan shared that, \u201cShe gave a thumbs up,\u201d congratulating Ruffy.<\/p>\n

Ruffy earned praise on social media for focusing the moment on Christ. \u201cMauricio Ruffy turned one of the biggest moments of his career into a bold public declaration of faith after winning at the UFC White House event.
