Her breakout hit “My Jesus” launched her into the spotlight and introduced fans to an artist willing to speak honestly about grief, identity, faith and trust in God. Since then, she has built a career that bridges both Christian and country music, touring alongside artists like Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert and Brooks & Dunn while continuing to share her Christian faith openly.

Now, Wilson is speaking even more deeply about those convictions as conversations around faith, identity and cultural pressure continue to dominate public life.

“The whole topic is really about what it means to live as a Christian in today’s world, to stand for the Gospel, to be bold in your faith and to take a stand for what you believe in,” Wilson told The Christian Post.

Wilson said many of the lessons she has learned have come from difficult moments in both her life and her career. While navigating the music industry, she said there have been times when following God required uncomfortable decisions.

“There have definitely been times in the music industry and through my career where I’ve had to really go, ‘OK, I’m going to trust God on this one,'” she said. “There might be a consequence to that.”

Despite the pressure, Wilson said she refuses to compromise either her faith or her musical identity to fit neatly into one category.

“I’m not going to compromise my faith to fit country, and I’m not going to compromise my sound to fit Christian radio,” she said. “This is who I am. I love Jesus. I love country music. I’m going to do both.”

Even with major success — including awards, chart-topping music and more than two billion streams — Wilson said young people today are still facing intense struggles with identity and comparison, especially in the age of social media and artificial intelligence.

“I think my generation struggles with identity so much because of the pressure,” she said. “We have social media at our fingertips. We have AI now. We have girls that don’t look real.”

Wilson admitted insecurity is something she has battled personally for years, despite the confidence fans may see onstage.

“I’ve struggled with that my entire life,” she said. “If I don’t put my confidence in Jesus and who He says I am, I’m never going to overcome this.”

The singer explained that being a “rebel” for Christ often means valuing obedience to God over public approval or popularity.

“It looks like putting Jesus first above all the opinions or asks of other people,” she said. “Being a rebel means choosing God over people.”

Much of Wilson’s faith was shaped by tragedy. At 15 years old, she lost her brother Jacob in a car accident — a devastating moment that changed the direction of her life. A video of Wilson singing “What a Beautiful Name” at his funeral later spread online and helped launch the music ministry that would eventually become her career.

Looking back, Wilson said the loss forced her to decide whether she would walk away from God or trust Him more deeply.

“When Jacob died, I had to trust God,” she said. “I was faced with this decision: Am I going to live the rest of my life without God, or am I going to lean into the God that I know is the only one who can get me through?”

Today, Wilson says staying spiritually grounded requires intentional time in Scripture, prayer, church and surrounding herself with a strong Christian community.

“If I’m not filled up spiritually, I can’t go do my job on stage,” she said. “I can’t go preach the Gospel like God has called me to.”

As her platform continues to grow, Wilson said her goal remains simple: to encourage people to boldly follow Jesus and discover the freedom found in Him.

“There’s so much freedom when you walk with God,” she said. “I want people to take a stand for Jesus and be bold in their faith.”

Anne Wilson says following Jesus in today’s culture often requires standing apart from the crowd — even when it comes with criticism, pressure or personal sacrifice.
