Chelsea Handler isn\u2019t holding back when it comes to her views on love, marriage, and independence. During a recent appearance on the \u201cAngie Martinez IRL Podcast,\u201d the 51-year-old comedian made it clear that traditional relationships\u2014especially marriage\u2014aren\u2019t a priority in her life.<\/p>\n

Handler told host Angie Martinez that she\u2019s simply not wired to chase relationships. \u201cI\u2019m not out seeking men,\u201d she said. \u201cThat is not my agenda in life. I\u2019m here for women and I\u2019m here for myself.\u201d It\u2019s a mindset that has shaped how she approaches dating, which she described as more casual and less serious.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been very thirsty for a man or a partner,\u201d Handler explained. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to really kind of get my attention for me to pay attention in a serious way because otherwise it\u2019s a bunch of casual encounters. You know what I mean? I like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Handler, the idea of personal freedom seems to outweigh the appeal of long-term commitment. She openly admitted that she enjoys living life on her own terms\u2014whether that means spontaneous travel or simply not having to answer to anyone else.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy whole vibe is about freedom,\u201d she said. \u201cI love the idea that I don\u2019t have to check in with anybody about anything I do. I don\u2019t have to consider or consult with anyone. If I want to get on a plane and go to Paris\u2026 I will go to Majorca for a month and f— off by myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even when asked about growing old with someone, Handler reframed the conversation around independence rather than companionship. Instead of viewing singleness as loneliness, she encouraged a different perspective: \u201cYou have to think of yourself as like, \u2018I\u2019m free. I\u2019m free now to make every decision I want for myself.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

That same philosophy carries over into her thoughts on marriage, which she didn\u2019t hesitate to criticize. Handler called it \u201coutdated\u201d and even \u201ca really silly idea,\u201d adding that it\u2019s \u201cnot something I attain to do.\u201d She went further, suggesting that marriage feels rooted in old systems of control, saying, \u201cI feel like that\u2019s a very patriarchal thing anyway. You\u2019re kind of like property a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, she acknowledged her own unpredictability with a dose of humor. \u201cSince I\u2019ve bemoaned marriage my whole entire public life, it would be really hypocritical for me to get married, which means I\u2019ll probably do it,\u201d she joked. \u201cAt some point I might just go, OK, f— it\u2026 What could go wrong at this point?\u201d<\/p>\n

Handler is currently dating a younger man she calls \u201cCowboy,\u201d and while their relationship seems to be going strong, it hasn\u2019t changed her stance on marriage.<\/p>\n

Her perspective is also shaped by past relationships, including her romance with comedian Jo Koy. After their breakup in 2022, Handler reflected on why things didn\u2019t work out, despite her deep feelings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were just some behaviors that we couldn\u2019t agree on,\u201d she said in a later interview. \u201cIt felt to me like I would have to abandon myself\u2026 but I wasn\u2019t willing to do that. No matter how much I loved this person\u2026 I was not going to abandon myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the heart of Handler\u2019s message is a strong emphasis on self-worth and personal identity. Love, for her, should never come at the cost of losing who you are\u2014and if it does, she\u2019s willing to walk away.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
