Top-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler is pressing pause on competition\u2014not for injury or rest, but for something far more meaningful. The two-time Masters champion has withdrawn from the Texas Children\u2019s Houston Open as he and his wife, Meredith, prepare to welcome their second child.<\/p>\n

Scheffler, 29, was originally set to compete at Memorial Park in Houston, but confirmed reports made clear his absence was \u201cnot injury-related.\u201d Instead, the timing points to a life moment he\u2019s made clear matters more than any trophy.<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s first child, Bennett, was born in May 2024\u2014just weeks after Scheffler captured his second green jacket at Augusta. Even then, he made his priorities known. Ahead of that Masters run, Scheffler had reportedly planned to withdraw mid-tournament if his wife went into labor.<\/p>\n

After securing the win, he didn\u2019t hesitate to explain how fatherhood would reshape his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will go home, soak in this victory tonight. Will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child,\u201d Scheffler said. \u201cBut with that being said, I still love competing\u2026 My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line.\u201d<\/p>\n

That mindset appears unchanged as baby No. 2 approaches.<\/p>\n

Scheffler\u2019s decision also aligns with comments he made last year about the limits of success in professional golf. Despite reaching the top of the sport, he openly questioned how fulfilling those achievements truly are.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s like showing up at the Masters every year; it’s like, why do I want to win this golf tournament so badly?\u201d he said. \u201cI don’t know because, if I win, it’s going to be awesome for two minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThis is not a fulfilling life\u2026 it\u2019s fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it\u2019s not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even in victory, Scheffler said the feeling is fleeting. \u201cYou win it, you celebrate, get to hug my family\u2026 it\u2019s such an amazing moment. Then it’s like, okay, what are we going to eat for dinner? Life goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Scheffler, that perspective seems to be shaping real decisions. While he\u2019s off to a strong start in the 2026 PGA Tour season\u2014including a win at The American Express and an average finish of 11th across six events\u2014he\u2019s choosing to step away at a key moment in the schedule.<\/p>\n

His next expected appearance is The Masters on April 9, where he\u2019ll likely enter as one of the favorites. But for now, his focus is clear.<\/p>\n

Family comes first.<\/p>\n

Scheffler has often spoken about the importance of his wife, Meredith, whom he married in 2020 after years of long-distance dating. After a win at the Memorial Tournament, he called her his \u201cbiggest supporter\u201d and \u201cbest friend,\u201d adding, \u201cI definitely couldn\u2019t do it without her.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the golfing world turns its attention toward Augusta, Scheffler is focused on something even bigger than another major title\u2014the arrival of a new life, and the growing family waiting for him at home.<\/p>\n
