LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, had first requested that LaBeouf leave New Orleans from March 1-8 for “religious observances” on February 25. LaBeouf had no scheduled court appearances at that time, but Judge Simone Levine denied the request due to the lack of a travel itinerary included with it. Chervinsky attended another hearing on March 4th, where Judge Peter Hamilton granted the motion for leave starting for a week from Wednesday.

Images show LaBeouf having arrived in Rome in time for his father, Jeffrey’s, baptism. LaBeouf found himself on the wrong side of the law during the Mardi Gras holiday on February 17 during a scuffle with three men in a bar. LaBeouf was taken into police custody at 12am after assaulting two victims. “A man identified as 39-year-old Shia LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business. A staff member attempted to eject Mr. LeBeouf from the establishment,” police told E! News. “Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times.” LaBeouf reportedly left briefly before returning in an even more aggressive manner, hitting the same individual and another man. There is also a report that he head-butted a third person. He was booked on counts of misdemeanor battery.

Following the incident, LaBeouf blamed his “small man complex” to “Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan.” “I was drunk, and then I felt infringed upon in terms of my proximity. But I wasn’t in my right mind, and so it’s on me,” he said. He also claimed that the men, one of whom identified as queer and another that was dressed in drag, made him uncomfortable. “I’ll be honest with you – big gay people are scary to me. I’m like, standing by myself and three gay dudes are next to me, touching my leg – I get scared,” he said. “I’m sorry – if that’s homophobic, then I’m that.” LaBeouf’s victims are hoping to pursue hate crime charges.

LaBeouf has taken responsibility for the brawl, stating, “I’ll do whatever it is. It was no good, bro, my behavior’s dirty, ugly, disgusting. So I got to eat it.” Despite being ordered to attend substance abuse treatment, LaBeouf has denied the incident is a result of his past substance abuse problems. “I’m gonna address it,” he told Callaghan. “I think it’s something that has to do with anger and ego moreso than my drinking, but that’s where I’m at now on my journey, and I’m trying to navigate it. I’ll figure it out.”

Shia LaBeouf was cleared to travel to Rome for his father’s baptism despite having been banned from travel following a brawl in New Orleans.
