Lily Collins is stepping into the shoes of one of Hollywood\u2019s most beloved icons, but the casting announcement has already sparked lively debate among fans.<\/p>\n

Collins is set to portray legendary actress Audrey Hepburn in a new film based on the book \u201cFifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman\u201d by Sam Wasson. The project will focus on a specific moment in Hepburn\u2019s career \u2014 the time surrounding the filming of her iconic 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s.<\/p>\n

While the announcement excited many fans, others quickly took to social media to voice skepticism about whether anyone could truly capture the magic of the beloved star.<\/p>\n

Amid the debate, Hepburn\u2019s son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, is offering a supportive perspective.<\/p>\n

Ferrer, who authored the biography \u201cIntimate Audrey,\u201d shared warm words about Collins and the project in an interview with Fox News Digital<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love Lily Collins. Sam Wasson, the book’s writer, is a good friend of mine and I’m very happy for him,\u201d Ferrer said. \u201cI don’t have any huge thoughts on the film as it hasn’t been made yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also reflected on how his famously humble mother might have reacted to the film\u2019s subtitle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that my mother might cringe at \u2018Dawn of the Modern Woman,\u2019 but she cringed at any compliment,\u201d Ferrer noted, adding that interest in Hepburn\u2019s life continues to grow. \u201cAnd now there are two films in prep for her, this one and \u2018Dinner with Audrey.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, Ferrer admitted he\u2019s curious how filmmakers will approach the story.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure how one adapts such a \u2018historical snapshot,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Online, reactions from fans have ranged from enthusiastic support to blunt criticism. Some praised Collins as \u201cthe most perfect person to play Audrey Hepburn,\u201d while others pushed back strongly, with one commenter writing, \u201cDont [sic] bother love you look nothing like Audrey she was one and only and will never be replaced by you or anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Film experts say that kind of reaction is common when actors portray legendary figures.<\/p>\n

Charlie Keil, a professor at the Cinema Studies Institute at the University of Toronto, explained that taking on such an iconic role \u201ccan be a field full of landmines.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen a contemporary star takes on the role of an iconic figure from the past, they may be judged by many different standards,\u201d Keil said. \u201cIf that figure is someone like Audrey Hepburn, who has been immortalized on screen in numerous famous roles, it is a much greater challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keil noted that Hepburn helped define an era of elegance in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was at the vanguard of fashion trends, had perfect diction, and having been born in Europe,\u201d he said, pointing to her \u201cdistinctive and lightly accented voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Keil also emphasized that audiences don\u2019t necessarily want an exact imitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t imitate \u2014 differentiate,\u201d he said, encouraging actors to bring their own perspective when portraying famous figures.<\/p>\n

Casting director Paul Schnee agrees that resemblance alone isn\u2019t what makes a performance work.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer vague resemblance to Audrey will be an assist, but talent trumps that,\u201d Schnee said, adding that the most important factor is whether the actor can capture the \u201cessence of the person.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Collins, the role represents a long-awaited opportunity. The actress revealed that the project has been in development for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s with almost 10 years of development and a lifetime of admiration and adoration for Audrey that I’m finally able to share this,\u201d Collins wrote on Instagram after the announcement. \u201cHonored and ecstatic don’t begin to express how I feel.\u201d<\/p>\n
