Full House\u2019s<\/em> Jodie Sweetin joined \u201cThe Moment<\/a>\u201d podcast, where she addressed she and former co-star Candace Cameron Bure\u2019s very different political stances. Cameron Bure and Sweetin played on-screen sisters DJ and Stephanie Tanner respectively on Full House <\/em>from 1987 to 1995 and later in the show\u2019s reboot, Fuller House<\/em>, which ran from 2016 to 2020. During the time in between, Cameron Bure has become an outspoken Christian and supporter of life and traditional marriage. Sweetin has gone the other way, being an LGBTQ+ advocate and has declared that she is \u201cnot a Christian.\u201d \u201cShe was the closest thing I had to a sister. We fought like sisters, even when we were kids, that\u2019s the relationship we had,\u201d Sweetin told the podcast, addressing Cameron Bure. \u00a0\u201cCandace\u2019s faith, to be quite honest, has always been at the forefront for her, and I have zero problem with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two have remained supportive of one another throughout the years<\/a>, with Sweetin referring to Cameron Bure as her \u201cbig sis\u201d on social media and Cameron Bure attending Sweetin\u2019s wedding to Mescal Wasilewski in August 2022. Their opposing views appeared to put them at odds later that year, however, after Cameron Bure announced she was leaving the Hallmark channel after working with the network for more than a decade. Cameron Bure announced she was leaving to join the new Great American Family Network (GAFN). Cameron Bure\u2019s departure was notable as it aligned with Hallmark\u2019s new commitment to add LGBTQ+ storylines. In an interview after her departure from Hallmark, Cameron Bure stated GAFN would \u201ckeep traditional marriage at the core.<\/p>\n

LGBTQ+ advocates blasted Cameron Bure, including former child star JoJo Siwa, who had been feuding with Cameron Bure previously after claiming she was the \u201crudest celebrity\u201d she\u2019d ever met. Sweetin posted in support of Siwa, writing, \u201cYou know I love you.\u201d Soon after, Cameron Bure stopped following Sweetin on social media. During the 2024 Summer Olympics, Cameron Bure criticized the event\u2019s opening ceremony, claiming its apparent attempt to recreate the Last Supper was an attempt to \u201cmock Christianity.\u201d Sweetin appeared to clap back at Bure, sharing a post from activist shared a post from activist Matt Bernstein<\/a> which stated,\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe drag queens at the Olympics were recreating the feast of Dionysus, not the Last Supper. And even if you thought it was a Christian reference \u2014 what\u2019s the harm? Why is it a \u2018parody\u2019 and not a tribute? Can drag queens not be Christian too?\u201d<\/p>\n

On an April episode of \u201cThe Vault<\/a>\u201d podcast, Sweetin addressed some of the apparent controversies between her and Cameron Bure, saying they \u201cnever actually got into it\u201d over their opposing views. \u201cShe posted her viewpoint and I posted mine. We\u2019ve always been very different on those things,\u201d she said. \u201cCandace and I \u2013 we just live very different lifestyles. We just exist in sort of very different worlds, but she is still someone I have known since I was 5 years old. It\u2019s like family members, where you\u2019re like, maybe we don\u2019t talk all the time \u2014 and I know if politics come up, it is not going to go well \u2014 but I don\u2019t hate you,\u201d she continued. \u201cI am not going to not hug you, but I am also not gonna keep my mouth shut.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her appearance on \u201cThe Moment,\u201d Sweetin did appear somewhat skeptical of Cameron Bure\u2019s claims that she loves \u201call people,\u201d despite supporting traditional marriage. \u201cI do know that I don\u2019t think you can truly love people if you don\u2019t respect them. I think if you don\u2019t respect people enough to allow them the same rights of marriage, of bodily autonomy and all those things, then I don\u2019t think that you can truly love someone,\u201d she insisted. \u201cIt\u2019s some sort of weird pity, and it\u2019s not love. For me, standing up to say that how we treat other humans because they\u2019re different from us is completely unacceptable. And I\u2019m pretty sure that is what Jesus would\u2019ve said, but what do I know? I\u2019m not a Christian.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
