Appearing on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uX6qigcqi7A\">Culture Apothecary<\/a>\u201d podcast with Alex Clark, she addressed questions about her activism for parental rights and how she viewed Hollywood, drawing the conversation into a discussion about her faith.\u00a0 McCarthy was raised Catholic and became an outspoken advocate for parental rights against vaccines, which put her at odds with liberal Hollywood. She began to adopt more conservative stances, such as \u201cquestioning authority, less government control, [being] closer to God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy described her feelings after she heard of Kirk being shot. \u201cI was so broken\u2026when he was shot, I prayed and prayed and prayed, and then I was calling every doctor I possibly could, saying, \u2018Tell me that this wound is something that could be healed\u2026\u2019 she said, adding, that \u201cwith every horrible thing, if you find the good, it can help you move forward. Look at the mass awakening. Look at how many people came closer to God, even including myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kirk\u2019s death inspired McCarthy to go deeper into her faith. \u201cI have a very deep relationship with God. You know, some people have to work really hard to hear Him. I\u2019ve got a direct line. I mean, Jesus is my homie,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve always been a follower of Christ, but when [Charlie] passed, I completely surrendered. I am so devoted. I started Bible study immediately\u2026\u201d She added that she and husband Donnie Wahlberg have \u201cjust have become devout since Charlie\u2019s passing.\u201d She spoke glowingly of Kirk\u2019s legacy. \u201cI just want Charlie to know that\u2014and I know he knows this, because he can see us all\u2014he changed the world,\u201d she said. \u201cHe saved the world. I mean, imagine having that as your legacy\u2026You brought all those people closer to Christ\u2026What a gift.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a strong admission given the difficult year McCarthy has had. Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/jenny-mccarthy-health-ordeal-growths-on-my-eyeballs-exclusive-11856361\"><em>People<\/em><\/a> prior to Thanksgiving, she shared that she\u2019d had nine surgeries in her mouth. \u201cI had one infection that turned into another and another, and then I had these growths show up on my eyeballs. My teeth were falling out,\u00a0implants falling out. They finally had to dig into my jawbone and chipped away, and found I had a deep bone infection.
