Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton is having the kind of season most college athletes dream of, but if you ask him what’s fueling his on-field success, he won’t start with football. He’ll start with faith. In a recent interview with “I Am Athlete,” Stockton opened up about the spiritual foundation that keeps him grounded through pressure, expectations and the whirlwind of life as a rising star in college football.<\/p>\n

“My parents, they’re awesome,” he shared<\/a>. “I think the biggest thing they did was, you know, [help me keep] my faith first. Just believing in the Lord and just trusting His process. And then second, I think they did a good job of keeping me level-headed.” That foundation has shaped the way Stockton carries himself, both as a leader for the Bulldogs and as a young man navigating newfound fame.<\/p>\n

Stockton said the key to managing the chaos that comes with big-time college football is consistency\u2014particularly when it comes to staying close to God. “Just staying in the Word and surrounding yourself with great people, like-minded,” he explained. “Our team chaplain’s awesome. He does a great job during the week and on Saturdays.” Whether he’s traveling for games, sitting in class, or preparing for kickoff, Stockton tries to keep Christ at the center.<\/p>\n

He also shared one simple principle that guides his everyday interactions: the Golden Rule. “The biggest thing for me is the Golden Rule,” he said. “That’s what I try to live by: treat others like you’d want to be treated. With voting around the corner, his name is beginning to surface in Heisman Trophy conversations. His stats certainly back it up. This season, Stockton has posted 27 total touchdowns and 2,619 yards of total offense with a 70.7% completion rate.
