But at 88, Cannon says it wasn’t fame, love, or success that gave her peace. It was faith.

In a new interview with Fox News Digital, Cannon reflected on her long, winding journey to becoming what she now proudly calls a “God girl.” She shared that her upcoming podcast, God’s Table Hollywood, will feature faith-based conversations about finding purpose in an industry often known for its lack of spirituality.

“My main seeking has been to understand why I’m here, to understand who I really am,” Cannon explained. “Not to fit in necessarily, and not to stand out necessarily. But to understand. And in understanding, there’s been freedom for me, and that’s what we try and talk about on the podcast.”

The veteran actress said she’s tried nearly every other path to fulfillment before realizing that true peace could only come from God. “Is it always easy? No. Life isn’t easy,” she said. “So how do we deal with that? How do we get through that? Well, I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried drugs. I’ve tried men. I’ve tried pills. I’ve tried everything. But they were like a Band-Aid that didn’t stick when I started to sweat.”

Cannon said it wasn’t until she grounded her life in faith that things began to change. “I had to find a platform, a faith, or a sounding board, something to stand on and base my thinking on — one that doesn’t change,” she said. “Faith has helped me with my emotional life. I used to expect a man to make me happy. Can you believe that? I used to think that was his job. That’s impossible.”

Cannon’s life and loves were often headline news, especially her marriage to Hollywood icon Cary Grant. The two wed in 1965 when she was 28 and he was 62. Their marriage was passionate but tumultuous, and they divorced three years later, sharing one daughter, Jennifer Grant, who was Cary’s only child. “We had wonderful times together,” Cannon said, “but had I been able to go back and live it differently, I would’ve.”

She also opened up about the pain that followed their divorce — a period marked by confusion, depression, and substance use. “I knew I shouldn’t do it, but I did it to please him,” she said of taking LSD with Grant, who believed the drug could lead to enlightenment. “He thought it was a gateway to God. I kept saying, ‘How is this going to help me find God?'”

After the breakup, Cannon turned to pills and marijuana to cope, but it only made things worse. “I was locked up,” she recalled of her eventual breakdown. “Most of my best friends didn’t know about it.”

Through all of it, Cannon said faith was the one thing that brought her back from the brink. Her mother was Jewish, and her father was Christian; she credits this spiritual mix for introducing her to the idea that God’s love transcends human boundaries at an early age. “When I say I’m a ‘God girl,’ it means that through all the years of seeking and trying, it has led me to understand there’s just one God who loves everybody the same,” she said. “There’s just one word to me that represents God, and that is Love — with a capital L. Not the kind that comes and goes, but the kind that remains the same.”

Cannon said she’s faced rejection in Hollywood for speaking openly about her faith. “In the past, I lost friends because of it — so-called friends,” she said. “Maybe even some work because of it. But I think the city of angels — Los Angeles — better decide whose angels they are.”

Now, she’s focused on spreading joy and truth through her podcast and the lessons she’s learned after decades in Hollywood. “Faith isn’t always easy to practice,” she admitted, “but it’s a platform for me to stand on when the world changes and we’re put to the test.”

Cannon says she’s content in her singleness but remains open to love — the right kind of love. “It took me a long time to learn how to be happy by myself,” she said. “I really thought I was incomplete without a man. But I’ve learned how to be happy alone. There’s great freedom in that because then you don’t settle for the broken set of dishes.”

These days, Cannon is surrounded by close friends and her two rescue dogs, and she says she’s more at peace than ever. “I don’t know if I’d want to get married again,” she said, “but I would love to be able to sit down with somebody and hold hands and talk about the things that are important in life. I like that idea.”

After years of chasing meaning through the world’s promises, Cannon says she’s found what she was searching for all along. “It’s Love,” she said simply. “The real kind. The God kind.”

Hollywood legend Dyan Cannon has lived a life many would call extraordinary — an Oscar-nominated actress, ex-wife of Cary Grant, and a star of both the screen and stage.
