Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about how she found peace stepping away from the Hollywood spotlight \u2014 even if she wasn\u2019t sure she\u2019d ever return.<\/p>\n

During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show<\/em> to promote her new movie Die My Love<\/em> alongside Jeremy Allen White, Bruce Springsteen, and Tessa Thompson, Lawrence reflected on her past breaks from acting and what those quiet years taught her.<\/p>\n

According to People<\/em><\/a>, when Norton asked if she was ever worried about getting back into the industry after taking multiple extended breaks \u2014 including two years between 2019\u2019s X-Men: Dark Phoenix<\/em> and 2021\u2019s Don\u2019t Look Up<\/em>, and another two years before her upcoming film \u2014 Lawrence was surprisingly honest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at peace with that possibility of happening. [Hollywood] is a lot. I think I would\u2019ve been fine. Well, I mean, no \u2014 I would be really upset,\u201d Lawrence admitted.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning actress said her long stretches of work through her 20s had left her wondering what life looked like beyond the red carpets and movie sets.<\/p>\n

\u201cI made COVID happen,\u201d she joked. \u201cI was just like, \u2018I want to take a break.\u2019 They were like, \u2018The world is shutting down.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In a 2021 Vanity Fair<\/em> interview, Lawrence was even more candid about why she decided to step away for a time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not pumping out the quality that I should have,\u201d she said. \u201cI just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I\u2019d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn\u2019t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, \u2018Why didn\u2019t she run?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Before her first hiatus, Lawrence starred in big projects like Passengers<\/em>, Mother!<\/em>, and Red Sparrow<\/em>, but the films didn\u2019t perform as well as expected. Looking back, she realized she was saying yes to too many things for the wrong reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life,\u201d she explained. \u201cWorking made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: \u2018Okay, I said yes, we\u2019re doing it. Nobody\u2019s mad.\u2019 And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.\u201d<\/p>\n

That realization changed everything.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t have a life. I thought I should go get one,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

So she did. Lawrence married art gallerist Cooke Maroney in 2019 and began focusing on the joys of ordinary life \u2014 the small, grounding moments that fame can\u2019t replicate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really enjoy going to the grocery store with him,\u201d she told Vanity Fair. \u201cI don\u2019t know why but it fills me with a lot of joy. I think maybe because it\u2019s almost a metaphor for marriage. \u2018Okay, we\u2019ve got this list. These are the things we need. Let\u2019s work together and get this done.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2022, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Cy, and earlier this year, they quietly celebrated the birth of their second baby.<\/p>\n

For Lawrence, it seems peace wasn\u2019t something found in fame, but in faithfulness \u2014 to her family, to herself, and to a slower, more meaningful rhythm of life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
