New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had every reason to doubt himself after being benched in the team’s 6\u201313 loss to the Carolina Panthers. But instead of losing hope, the 25-year-old athlete turned to his faith\u2014and that faith helped lead him and his team to one of the most thrilling victories of the NFL season.<\/p>\n

After spending the week unsure if he’d get another chance to start, Fields worked harder than ever in practice, keeping his focus on God rather than the noise surrounding him. His perseverance paid off spectacularly on Sunday when he led the Jets to their first win of the season in an incredible comeback against the Cincinnati Bengals.<\/p>\n

According to the New York Jets, Fields completed 21 of 32 passes for 248 net yards and a touchdown\u2014without a turnover or a single sack. The offense exploded with 502 total yards, including an impressive 254 rushing yards. But while fans were celebrating the win, Fields was focused on giving glory where he believed it was due.<\/p>\n

“God is good. That’s all I got to say,” Fields told<\/a> reporters after the game. “All the trials and tribulations we’ve had this whole season\u2014from last week to this week, to all the noise around\u2014it’s been a lot. But I found my peace in Him.”<\/p>\n

Later, after taking time to shower and reflect, Fields spoke even more candidly about what had been going through his heart and mind in the days before the game.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a lot for me emotionally and spiritually,” he said. “When I was on the field, I was about to start crying\u2014not because we won, but because of the goodness of God. Everything we’ve been through this season, all the ups and downs\u2014it worked for the greater good.”<\/p>\n
