UFC fighter Conor McGregor says his life has been transformed by faith. He’s now living “by God’s Word” after what he describes as a powerful spiritual awakening.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion opened up about his faith journey during a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) press conference in Italy last week, sharing that he has been “saved” and now lives with a renewed purpose.<\/p>\n

“I’m not here just by chance,” McGregor said<\/a> when asked about his journey. “There is a higher power, God, that dictates my journey and all of our journeys. And I live my life by God’s Word.”<\/p>\n

McGregor, who has not fought in the UFC since breaking his ankle during a 2021 rematch with Dustin Poirier, said the injury became a turning point that led him toward faith and healing.<\/p>\n

“Since around that time that you mentioned, at the last event, I’ve engaged in a spiritual journey, and I’ve been saved. I’m saved. I am healed,” he said. “And, you know, on the back of that, the world is in for a treat. My competitive spark that was once in my heart is now a roaring blaze.”<\/p>\n

The athlete, known for his brash persona and controversial outbursts throughout his career, told reporters he has undergone a major personal transformation. “I want to leave a legacy that can be looked upon as a lesson,” McGregor said. “You’ve seen with me what works, and also what doesn’t work. Now I’m in a stage where I come back and show again what I’m about.”<\/p>\n

BKFC President David Feldman praised McGregor for turning his life around. “A lot of people in the world need to make changes in their life, and they don’t because they don’t have the guts to,” Feldman said. “I just want to commend Conor McGregor for making the kind of change that he had to make. It’s not easy.”<\/p>\n

McGregor, who shares four children with his fianc\u00e9e, Dee Devlin, has expressed interest in returning to competition during the UFC’s planned White House card on June 14, 2026, part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration.<\/p>\n

His newfound faith marks a stark contrast from his past. Over the years, McGregor has faced multiple legal and personal challenges \u2014 including arrests, lawsuits, and public controversies. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct for throwing a dolly through a bus window, injuring several people. He later paid restitution, performed community service at a Brooklyn church, and completed an anger management program.<\/p>\n

Today, McGregor says his goal is no longer fame or glory, but living in alignment with God’s will. “There is a higher power,” he said again. “God dictates my journey \u2014 and I live by His Word.”<\/p>\n

McGregor joins a growing number of professional fighters publicly professing their faith. Earlier this year, former UFC competitor Ben Askren shared how he became a Christian after surviving a 45-day coma during which his heart stopped four times. “I woke up and I just decided I was a Christian,” Askren said in August. “So, that was crazy.”<\/p>\n
