It has been more than two decades since Mel Gibson stunned the world with The Passion of the Christ<\/em>. Now, the long-awaited sequel is finally moving into production\u2014but with a twist: a completely new cast.<\/p>\n

According to insiders, Gibson’s follow-up, The Resurrection of the Christ<\/em>, will begin filming<\/a> in Rome with fresh faces stepping into the iconic biblical roles. Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in the 2004 original, will not reprise his role, and Monica Bellucci, who played Mary Magdalene, will also not return.<\/p>\n

“They’re [currently] meeting with actors [in Rome],” one source shared. Another insider explained that the decision to replace the original cast came down to practical concerns. “They’d [have had] to do a lot of work with the [original] actors\u2026 digital stuff, plus the scheduling,” they said.<\/p>\n
