The couple, which has billed themselves as Christian with a family-friendly TV network, had been criticized earlier this summer after it was discovered \u201cBack to the Frontier\u201d included a gay couple and their adopted son via IVF. Chip Gaines had defended the show, claiming that Christians were being \u201cquick to judge\u201d and that the show had focused on kindness rather than promotion. Now, clips of the show, \u201cRoller Jam,\u201d which debuted on the Magnolia Network last year are reigniting further controversy.<\/p>\n<p>The show, which was not renewed for a second season, featured an <em>American Idol<\/em>&#8211; style competition with roller skating and an all-queer team, with some of the male contestants wearing dresses during the competition. It also featured openly gay Jonny Weir as a judge, who often dressed in drag and effeminate clothing. Jordin Sparks, an outspoken activist for LGBTQ+ rights, was featured as the show\u2019s host. The LGBTQ+ media outlet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.out.com\/drag\/jordin-sparks-roller-jam\"><em>Out<\/em><\/a>, featured the show last year, calling it, \u201cthe LGBTQ+ roller skating reality show we never knew we needed.\u201d \u201cRoller Jam features plenty of LGBTQ+ representation and openly gay Olympic ice skater Johnny Weir is thrilled to showcase so much love and queer energy on the show,\u201d <em>Out <\/em>noted. Joanna Gaines <a href=\"https:\/\/protestia.com\/2025\/08\/25\/new-tv-show-produced-by-chip-and-joanna-gaines-ft-all-queer-team-crossdressing-judge\/\">promoted the show<\/a> on her socials, calling it a \u201cdream come true\u201d and painting it as a show \u201cthe whole family can watch together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conservative commentator Jon Root <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JonnyRoot_\">called out<\/a> the couple on social media. \u201cWhy are you promoting homosexuality as a Christian in your \u2018Roller Jam\u2019 show? Why do you support men crossdressing, like the judge on your show? Why compromise on the Bible\u2019s clear teachings on this? Again, disappointed would an understatement\u2026\u201d The <em>Daily Wire\u2019s <\/em>Megan Basham <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/megbasham\/status\/1959981191139819578?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1959981191139819578%7Ctwgr%5Eb36e4f210d94856d7c0aee8009bab4ff36437e1a%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faithwire.com%2F2025%2F08%2F26%2Fchip-and-joanna-gaines-under-fire-again-after-tv-clips-resurface%2F\">pushed back<\/a> at Chip Gaines\u2019s previous claims that critics of \u201cBack to the Frontier\u201d were being too quick to judge. \u201cAnother show that @chipgaines and Joanna Gaines are producing.
