Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley just had the best season of his NFL career, and he says it’s no coincidence that it happened the same year he “found” his faith in Christ.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the best year I’ve had in my career, I’ve found my faith,” Barkley shared<\/a> recently during a golf outing with Christian golfer Grant Horvat. “It gives me some clarity in life.”<\/p>\n

Barkley, who played his first six seasons with the New York Giants before joining the Eagles last year, led the NFL in rushing yards during the 2024 season, surpassing 2,000 yards for the first time and helping lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl LIX win in February. The season was a breakthrough for Barkley, who has battled injuries in previous years, and he credits God for his renewed strength and purpose.<\/p>\n

While riding between holes during the golf game, Barkley asked Horvat, “You’re big in your faith, right?” When Horvat confirmed and asked if Barkley was also a Christian, the NFL star replied, “I just became a Christian not too long ago.”<\/p>\n

Horvat responded, “It’s amazing being able to even share it on here with people who may be struggling in their lives and don’t know which direction to go.” Barkley agreed, emphasizing that finding faith in Christ has brought him clarity and a sense of purpose beyond football.<\/p>\n

During Super Bowl week, Barkley had already opened up about how much his faith journey was impacting him. He shared that his agent is also a pastor, and they spent the season studying the Bible together. “I don’t think it’s ironic that the year that I try to really hone in and grow in my faith, I happen to have my best season,” he said at the time. “I don’t think that’s ironic at all.”<\/p>\n

For Barkley, growing in faith is not about perfection but about relationship. “I think that’s what religion and faith are \u2014 having a relationship with God and understanding who Jesus is, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do this year,” he said. “I’m going to continue to try and get better at it. I know that I wouldn’t be here without the Man above.”<\/p>\n

Although this past year marked a season of deeper faith for Barkley, it wasn’t the first time he gave glory to God publicly. Back in 2019, after winning the Breakthrough Athlete of the Year Award at the ESPYs, Barkley opened his acceptance speech by saying, “First and foremost, I want to say thank you to God for blessing me with the opportunity to wake up every single day and play the sport I love and have impact on others.”<\/p>\n

Now, as Barkley continues to inspire fans on and off the field, his message remains clear: faith is the real game-changer. “Finding God and finding Jesus and just living your life for Him is the most amazing thing,” Horvat shared during their conversation, and it’s clear Barkley agrees.
